I've seen the AI do this. I deploy an anti ship 1 drone and they had some type of weapon that was able to quickly and effectively destroy it everytime. My drone control room was not damaged, but I had to keep spending drone parts to replace them as they were destroyed.
So, what weapon did they have that can do this? Is there a way to kill defense drone other than disabling the drone control room? I've also noticed that sometimes my defense drone are killed in the same manner.

If a drone happens to be in the way of a projectile, it'll get shot down. Theres no way to manually do it, it just happens.

I once had a defence drone get killed by a missle, talk about irony.

I once shot down my own defence drone because it swung in front of my lasers just as they were firing.

You sure it wasn't an enemy projectile? I didn't think you could shoot down your own drones.

I'm pretty sure I've done it. Shot down enemy drones too. It's fairly noticeable when my shot just disappears like that, not missing, not impacting the enemy shields, but suddenly there's a drone missing.

Has anybody tried hitting drones with Beam weapons? Other kinds of weapons seem to have a random angle of approach, but perhaps beams can be used to attack drones accurately.

beams have random angles of approach as well don't they? I've seen a screenshot where a guy fired 2 beams simultaneously and they came at the enemy ship from 2 and 6 o'clock. (which is kind of weird :p)

I think the angle of the beam might be determined by the angle of the line you draw to fire them.

I don't mean relying on the angle of the beam; I mean drawing the beam line itself on top of a drone.

I think you need to target the rooms on board the ship.
