Can we have a limit on amount of experience gain per fight?

What you do on your computer in the privacy of your own home is your business, not mine. Your achievements are no doubt legit to you, no matter how you play or what you take advantage of. I'm cool with that.
But wouldn't the game and its players be better off if you couldn't just sit in an asteroid field and walk away from the computer knowing that after you're done having coffee, just switch out the shields guy and all your guys will eventually have maxed out experience in Shields?
Or find an enemy ship with weapons that simply can't really do much to you, and make sure it's a stalemate, and then walk away from the computer and come back to fully leveled characters?
I always play on Normal. I make decisions based on what I would do if I was REALLY in charge of a spaceship in that situation (exceptions being stuff to unlock ships) due to me being a bit of an immersion-addict. I'm cool if people play however they want, but [unintended?] stuff like these "power-leveling" strats cheapen the overall community of the game, imho. I really think leaving it as is will mean more people will rush through and be done with the game more quickly, and just move on to the next shiny thing. Nothing that comes easy is ever treasured quite so much as that which takes a lot of work and strategizing.
Feel free to disagree, I'll fight to the death to protect your right to tell me I'm wrong.
