The champions without love

Hi everyone,
I am new to this forum and to the game as well, so let this be my first 'hello' to you all.
I like to add, although only used as poor excuse, this is not my native language, so please look over some of the BS I may phrase.
I'd like to share my experience of the first time I beat the game, which was the previous night. I've only played this game for 3 days now, so I consider myself a total greenhorn and I never expected to pass this test, which imho is not only a test in gaming skill but endurance for the most part. Of course, like most of you I assume, I wanted to beat this flagship with the coolest ship ever built in history led by the most awesome crew. So I gave it names like 'The Cucumber Star' piloted by 'Cpt Pitcock', 'Ms Phaserboobs' on the weaponry and 'Mr Quickdraw' manning the shields. You can imagine how it went with the first dozen attempts to overcome the rebels. Starting with a lack of understanding, quickly followed by poor micro and all the giant spiders which definitely would not kill one of your crewmen the fifth time in a row. Definitely not, right! After a while, with several occurrences of screwing over just in the first sector, there was this moment when personal bindings fainted. The Kestrel was no longer the 'Cucumber II' or 'USS Run4UrLife' it was just 'Kestrel'. Poor and ugly. Not only that, but also the crew began to change as well over time. They all got a bit tired of their heroic names, which tend to lead them into the abyss. So Cpt Pitcock became just 'Cpt'. The lovely Ms Phaserboobs named herself 'Weap' and the fun guy formerly known as Mr Quickdraw was now referred to as 'Shield'. So their quest went on and on, with still a lot of enthusiasm but missing a good amount of uniqueness. They tried their best to succeed in their mission, but as usual all odds were against them. Be it events going terribly wrong, too many Mantis boarders with just too few resistance on board or the one totally OP rebel ship which sneaked its way into my course to slap my poorly equipped ship in its helpless face.
A lot of anger and aggression was followed by a lot more tries and Cpt, Weap and Shield were having a hard time.
Then last night there was that moment, seemingly the 99th ship I would guide into its doom, when there was just not enough love left to care about the crew, who was silly enough to hold up their hands for this mission of no return. The ship was the 'Kestrel' like many had been before and I didn't even care about how the AI had named the fellows I would lie my fractured hopes on. They just had to do their freaking job, which was all I wanted. So leaving the hangar, all that was left was heartless routine: F1 - pilot, F2 - to the shields, F3 - Weapons, JUMP!
In hindsight I feel very bad for not taking care of these awesome guys who just ripped the sh*t out of the entire universe, but they will have a place in my heart for ever. So let me tell you their short story:
Like before the first couple of jumps didn't reveal anything special. Left the station fighting their spider problem for their own, shot a few drones. Then there was that moment, when I at least raised an eyebrow: I somehow (I didn't even care about reading the events at this point) had found a fire beam. Getting a few upgrades ready, I managed to equip and power it and knowing that finishing off the enemy’s crew would grand me a good boost on scrap, I managed to burn quite a few of them to ashes, leading all the accumulated hate into the little red line, that popped on board right after their tiny shields collapsed! However this run would end, this should at least satisfy my thirst for revenge. But just two jumps before I would leave the first sector behind me, I entered the only shop I managed to reach and what did my sleepy eyes see in display? A Scrap recovery arm! From now on fortune licked my face at almost every encounter! I burned my way through the sectors, having Enri and Mantis join the crew of my fiery widow maker, armed with a deadly load out of lasers, ion-bombs, the most feared fire beam, and more rocket launchers in spare, than the ship named 'Kestrel' could ever power. The crew which started with no names that should be remembered now had enough scrap to buy all the names in the universe, and they used it to upgrade the flying fire devil where ever possible. So arriving at sector five the seven unnamed, unloved, sat behind four shield bubbles, fully cloak when ever needed, hitting the big red triggers of their cloak-weapons burning the living to cinders. Arriving at the last stand came the fright. I realised I was totally unfamiliar with the flagship, having it seen only once let alone being able to pierce its shields. A goose flesh crawled up my arms, when I saw the map having the mother ship at one end and the three repair stations on the other, the rebel fleet on the go. I would not be able to repair myself between the encounters. I swallowed and hit the JUMP!
Long story short, I ripped the f**ker to pieces! Cloaked the rocket-/drone-/laser volleys easily, ion-bombing his shields, firing my weapons at will. I swam in so much scrap I even upgraded the least used systems, not caring about boarding drones with lvl3 doors, lvl3 Medbay and lvl3 O2 supply. It was like eating cake.
The flagship exploded in a huge mess three times in a row and the screen told me about the 'Kestrel' defeating the rebellion with a crew that was totally foreign to me. A tear ran down my eye and my finger automatically hammered the screen-shot button.
Dear people of the 'Kestrel'. Whoever you were, you will not be forgotten and there should always be evidence of your deeds in the place called C:\Users\Gurkenland\Pictures.
Thank you
