Keyboard mode?

I just wish I could do EVERYTHING on my keyboard. I love to take this game with me on a plane trip. The way your hand is always on the pause button ready to give commands and lose no reflex time due to the lack of a mouse means I don't really need a mouse for this game, but there are so many necessary commands that are just plain uncomfortable to do with the stupid slidey pad. Not to mention right click is extremely annoying to command. I mean there's more then enough keys for it.

Each room of your ship and the enemy ship could have an assigned key. The keys for each room could be displayed through the options menu and shown inside the corner of each room.

Selecting each crew member could be done with the F keys.

I would recommend putting FTL jump at the Enter key.

Now the tough part. Powering up and down individual systems of your ship. I think it should be a 2 part system. One for selecting the system, and one to decide to power the system up and down. The selected systems would be from left to right just under the number keys (QWERTYUIOP, other keys can be used). You hold shift to distinguish between selecting rooms or systems (for rooms, just hit the key. For systems, hold shift then hit the key). When you have a system selected, * [ * powers down the system and * ] * powers up the system.

The star chart's beacons would all have displayed keys assigned to them as well.

I would just love to see this idea implemented, or if possible, modded into the game. Slidey mouse pad is no bueno.

Uhh, you might need an update. I'm on v1.03.1 and it definitely has hotkeys for powering/depowering systems, weapons, and drones, and crew selection, in addition to a few select actions (such as jumping and cloaking). You might need an update.

I've been playing with a trackpad for a while now, and I feel no discomfort from it other than excessive pausing, due to lowered precision. If you have a laptop that's recent enough, you should be able to set up your trackpad to click and hold to drag and right click with a special gesture (e.g. three finger tap on my laptop).
