Momentary Lapses of Judgment

Share the times when you made a terrible blunder, or overlooked something critical, that ultimately led to your demise.

So I just unlocked the Stealth Cruiser and decided to try it out, and all afternoon I was having a extremely difficult time on normal, and I couldn't figure out why. I looked up tips for the Stealth A, and I followed it, yet the entire time I couldn't get very far, and even if I did survive the first few sectors, I was severely underpowered and die in the middle. I got very frustrated so I took a break.

Then I realized, Say 966socho, didn't you install a few mods yesterday? Could that be messing with your runs? I went back and checked, and what do you know? I had the Weapon Diversity mod up the whole time! That made the Dual Laser I started with cost 2 power instead of 1, so I couldn't get the Mini-Beam up early and start cutting apart ships. I was able to win in one run after disabling it. I am convinced I must have the IQ of pavement.

Just the other day I was micromanaging power to get that extra shield up on a ship I'm modding (Based on the Firesarter that was posted here a while ago, with a fire beam). The enemy crew was pretty elite, and could JUST keep up with me, so the battle was taking a long time. However, the ship itself was no threat so I didn't have to pay attention to my side of the battle at all.

Or so I thought.

As their ship exploded as their last system went down, I looked back at my ship. Somehow I'd missed the medical alert noises as my crew was suffocating because when the battle started, I'd "temporarily" turned off the oxygen to power that shield THAT I DIDN'T EVEN NEED. I turned on the O2 and sent the two closest guys to the medbay. They lived. The other 6 crew members (Yes, I had a full crew) did not. My engi and my engines guy (a rockman) then took the ship alone the rest of the way.

The flagship ended up beating me because I didn't have much offensive power. I had intended on buying a teleporter but with 2 guys on the ship there was no chance of that. No other crew options (stores or otherwise) showed themselves and my ion/fire combo tried valiantly to win the day, but the drone phase totally decimated my poor ship and its two crew members.
