The best (for me) counter-boarding strategy

I don't know if anyone have mentioned it before, but when you realise that your ship is being boarded all you have to do is to gather all of your crew in med-bay (if your crew consists of more than three persons you can use adjacent rooms also) and open ALL of the doors on your ship, except those in rooms where your crew is being gathered. This will force enemy boarders to almost immediately run away from vacuum-filled rooms to med-bay, where they will be ambushed by your guys being healed instantly during the battle, which will be short and victorious. Hope this will be helpful.

P.S. doesn't work against boarding drones

That's a fairly common strategy, however it isn't necessarily the best way of doing things if you're also being attacked by a powerful ship and need crew at their stations.

A good thing to remember is that enemies move towards the closest room with a system and with oxygen. As such, you can predict where the enemy boarders are going to move, so you can keep some crew at their stations and just vent the rooms you need too. With level 2 or 3 doors you can also make sure that the boarders are nicely suffocated before they reach you.

I'm not sure how boarders prioritise which room to go too if there is more than one suitable room, can anyone shed some light on this?

It's not always the closest, and there seems to be some sort of priority system.

They will stop and fight in any occupied room and then continue to destroy the system once fixed to the spot. The exception is when there are more boarders than fit into a room. They will sometimes leave a combat in another room to fill in a newly created empty space (ie you killed a boarder) in a high priority room.

The highest priority rooms seem to be door control and O2.

Teleport seems to also have fairly high priority.

Also, a good way to stop them from attacking your doors or O2 is to intercept them with any crew in any system room. Once they have stopped to attack your crew, your crew can leave and they will usually stick around and destroy the system in the room they are in. I'll usually do this while I gather crew together to hit them en masse.

Antipersonnel drones, lvl2 or 3 doors, and the cold vacuum of space also works well. Though repelling boarders is a great way to level up your own boarders.

I find that Layout B of the Unidentified Cruiser is the deadliest for boarders, when its long corridor extending out to Weapons and Cloak has two airlocks. I just let them chill in that section of the ship while my crew takes theirs apart. Even if they land close to the back, I can just lock them out with my crew's special ability, and watch the boarders' desperate banging on the walls of the evacuated room slowly fade. One of the many reasons it's recognized as the most powerful ship.

Try Slug B once you managed to get it— it has its layout as one of the ship starting weapon!
