Easy Mode NOT EASY ENOUGH!

I always seem to get through 3 or 4 sectors, then near the Exit of the next one, there's an enemy ship that has eight different systems and two shields, it boards me immediately and pounds the crap out of me every time.

Any ideas about how to get past this? Thx.

The game is quite hard even on easy. It's not impossible to succed but it takes quite of a lot of experience in dieing horrible deaths before you master FTL.

Keep trying. :)

The first thing I buy with almost every ship I play is the next level of shields. (Usually bumping up level one to level two.) The next thing I buy is usually the NEXT level of shields. (Level 2 to 3.) Most games I am leaving sector one with three Blue dots on my ship.

I think having a defensive ship is very important.

Your first purchase should almost always, always, always be level 2 shields. You have 30 scrap to start the game on EASY. All you need is 20 more to get that life saving purchase.

Your other option is to familiarize yourself with anti-boarding tactics. IE, get level 2 doors, and then vent out compartments. Granted, a pair of mantis can tear through them like hot butter, but that's just crap you gotta put up with.

I can vouch for this. You can live off of level two shields for a while, but you'll be taking a LOT of hits with level one. Getting three shield bars out of sector 1 is kind of unnecessary, easy or not, since you often want to save a good amount of scrap for any nice weapons or especially defense drones/drone control systems.

Defensive leads to less hull damage leads to less scrap wasted on repairs leads to more scrap for whatever. Defensive can come in the form of Shields, Engine, Drone Control + Defense Drone or Drone Control + Antipersonnel Drone, Cloaking and Door Upgrades.

Of course if you have overwhelming Offense, sometimes you can disable an enemy ship's weapons before it can cause much damage to you too and being able to *survive* a fight does not yield scrap- so prioritizing defense TOO much can actually lead to less scrap despite maybe need some repairs.

Level two doors in particular are a very good investment; they're cheap and they will save your butt, especially in mantis sectors.

I prefer buying better engines at first.
