Hey there, I was thinking about trying to shoot for a 6000 score run, but I was wondering if it was possible. And if so, how would I go about racking up points.

I have only ever collected 2500 scrap max in a run. Should I try and push my luck and fight a bunch of rebel ships at the end of a sector to buff up my score?

It can be done without having to 'farm' the rebel fleet at all.

Some tips:

- Jump into all nebula beacon in a non-nebula sector.
- Long-range scanner can reduces or eliminates your chance of jumping into a 'nice view', i.e. blank beacon.
- Capture ships intact by killing all the crew whenever possible.
- Prepared your ships well before the last sector; you don't want to visit shops or the 'repair' beacons and instead fight as many ships as you can.
- This one is the most important— Hope that the RNG goddess smile upon you.

Good to know. i've been shooting for it for awhile but I think luck has not been on my side either with the encounters I face or the fact that exits are located practically in the middle of the map.

I've done 5600 with Red-Tail and I visited every store I could and not farming the fleet at all. I think if you're lucky with the right weapon drops and stuff you can easily get more by avoiding stores. It helps if you use a ship that can survive a lot more (like the Zoltan Cruiser, although the starting weapons don't last for very long so you'd need to find or buy good weaps at or around sector three).

Is there another thread somewhere that details how the high score is calculated?

Using the number from the Session stats:

№ of Ships Defeated × 20 = A
№ of Beacons Explored × 10 = B
№ of Scraps Collected = C

Final Score (easy) = A+B+C
Final Score (normal) = A+B+C × 1.25

Do the Elite Rebel Fighters from the pursuing fleet count in that number? What about beacons that you haven't yet visited but now contain the fleet? If so... 6000 should be easy to get. Since you always get 1 Fuel you could farm them indefinitely...

yes the rebels from the pursuing fleet count, the beacons I don't know. You cannot farm them indefinitely because once defeated the beacon is "clear" and no more encounters take place in it.
I did a score of 5003 on easy without any farm or active scoring technique. This is equivalent of a 6253 score in normal. I was very lucky in the events and I found the crystal sector at the last beacon of the rock homeworld sector (this was 3 beacons past the end of sector beacon), so I had an extra sector for scrap collecting and ship fighting. I collected a huge amount of scrap, listed as 2943 in the stats.
