FTL development time

How long did it take to develop FTL? Because only 2 people were working on it, right?
Two people yes (Matthew and Justin). After the success of their KickStarter, they hired a musician (Ben Prunty) and an additional writer for game events (Tom Jubert). I don't know how much time it took overall.
