Suggestion: Second Chance

So... your situation is dire. Your hull is about to crack, there's 3 drones circling like buzzards, the enemy ship has shields up the wazoo, you're being boarded by 4 mantis and the only system on your ship that isn't on fire or venting atmosphere is your teleporter. So you beam as many crew as you can onto the other ship, disable THEIR teleporter, kill it's remaining crew.. and see your ship fall apart through a viewport.
GAME OVER.
GAME OVER?
It's not over until the fat lady sings!
----
If you are in a situation where (some of)your crew is alive, but your ship isn't, it should be possible to continue the game with the hijacked enemy vessel, but with some restrictions:
* At least one of the survivors must belong to your original crew. (Charlie would simply go back to his cave, after all
* Ship-specific achievements/unlocks are no longer possible (unless you take control of a similar ship to yours).
* One or more trials must be meet succesfully. Some crew members might be usefull there.
** Hacking the ship's security system. Failure means self-destruct, although having an Engi gives you a blue option for 100% success.
** Reactor failure. The reactor was damaged and is overloading, radioactivity (fire) is flooding the room. A crew member must go in and activate the manual shutdown but will likely mean his death (unless the ship happens to have an level 2 medbay.) Rockman crew give you a blue option for no casualty.
** Saboteur. An enemy crew member hid inside a maintenance tube and is sabotaging the ship! He must be found and killed ASAP! (You can search for the saboteur until you found him. Each failed search (success is 25%*CrewAmount) deals hull damage. Slug crew gives a blue option here (for obvious reasons.)
