I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before, I couldn't find anything when I searched for it.
Sometimes when you start a new game your characters names might cross species.
Here's an example. Running OS X 10.8.1 off of Steam if it matters.

The names actually are not species specific. Everyone shares a naming pool. Just imagine it's their "common tongue" name, and the Engi name cannot be written or spoken

Now I feel racist.
