Command prompt can't find the directory, even though I typed it correctly and put it with and without "" around it.

I've just stopped trying, It's probably because I'm on windows 8 and not lovely 7.

The mod manager keeps backups of the game's resources when it first runs. Every time you patch, it uses those backups to replace the game's resources. When FTL is upgraded, the backups are from the old FTL version, and the mod manager unknowingly copies them into the new FTL, which causes problems like that.
Meganought wrote:i un-modded the game, verified the integrity, opened the game and it worked.
Make sure the game is working by doing that, and delete GMM's backups. Then run GMM, so it will make new backups.
Meganought wrote:i am unable to use the latest version, due to it saying i do not have the required python
Ignore 1.7's modman.exe, it almost never finds python. Run main.py directly instead. (see my post just before this one)

GMM 1.6 keeps its backups in "Program Files (maybe x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/FTL Faster Than Light/resources/*.bak".
GMM 1.7 keeps its backups in "GMM/backup/*.bak".

The difference between Win7 and Win8 is mostly cosmetic.

In any case, the next release of GMM will hopefully have a modman.exe that will work for you.

Version 1.7 doesn't work on Windows XP SP3 but 1.6 does. When I run 1.7 I get the message about not being able to locate a suitable Python.

Unfortunately the previous suggestion about running "main.py" from a command prompt doesn't work either, it just opens the "Open with" dialog. Why would 1.6 work but 1.7 doesn't? Does 1.6 contain its own Python engine?

Make sure you have python 2.7 installed.
If typing "main.py" as above doesn't work (it should), you can type "c:\Python27\python.exe main.py" instead.

Previous versions of modman.exe actually contained a copy of python. Grognak's handling that, but I get the impression packaging that way has grown too quirky for the near future (The virus false positives, and now straddling Python 2.x/3.x compatibility).

The current modman.exe just runs whatever python is installed against main.py. But a minor oversight in its design for 1.7 prevented it from ever finding python.

@Vhati

Thanks for the info, I'll grab myself a copy of Python. I've always programmed using Visual Studio for VC++ and VB so Python is not something I've ever installed.

Please run a check on this manager. My antivirus detected a trojan in it.

Bad antiviruse software can detect fake alerts in a lot of software. But if someone could check this it will be really appreciatted (with nod32, kapersky , for example).

Which version? GMM 1.7?

The modman.exe's in previous versions were built with PyInstaller, which is known to have cause false-positives from virus scanners. In 1.7 it's different; dunno the details, but I'm guessing it's some flavor of C, personally written/compiled by Grognak.

I was doing a check with Hitman pro. I haven't had any alerts from Mcafee. Yes, GM 1.7
