If I'm not mistaken, you simply need to go to the folder where the resource.dat gets unpacked to and delete the (probably hidden/read-only) file named Thumbs.db. It's a file that Windows generates when you browse to any folder with images.

For me the equivalent folder would be:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FTL Faster Than Light\resources\resource.dat-unpacked\img\ship

- Delete resource.dat-unpacked and data.dat-unpacked folders.
- Open the Control Panel and find Folder Options. In Info, look for an option to "hide extensions for known file types". Make sure the option is unchecked.
- In FTL/resources, delete data.dat and resource.dat.
- Rename data.dat.bak to data.dat rename resource.dat.bak to resource.dat
The game should now be vanilla FTL. Try patching a mod and see if it works.

if that doesnt cure the problem then:
- Unistall FTL.
- Copy your .ftl mods somewhere else first, then delete everything in the FTL folder manually. Where FTL was an empty folder must remain.
- Install FTL, and GMM.

Same problem as a lot of people. My FTL game is in the default Steam folder ( C: -> ProgramFiles(x86) -> Steam -> Apps -> common etc) so I don't have a damn clue.

Please add to the linux instructions that you will need python2.7 and tk to start this.

Can someone forward this to the devs? They should know that their modding community is unable to use mods currently.

The devs (who wrote the game) do not support the mods other than by having created these sub-forums so that the community can work together and support itself.

Also, even though the Mod Manager is obviously a difficult thing to install (I have never tried it myself :)), many users are currently installing, using, de-installing mods without issues. So, the modding community is certainly able to use mods currently.

Not true. I have no idea why you cannot use GMM. I can only offer the following advice:

- Make sure you are playing the latest version of FTL 1.03.1
- Use the latest version of GMM.
- Read the first post of this thread and the instruction for installing GMM very carefully.
- (optional) Make a copy of FTL (Copy the game folder, call it FTLm) and install GMM there. This keeps your main files safe and makes it possible to use it as a backup in case of fuckups. This will not work with the steam version though. Your profile and saved games are kept separately and you cannot have more than one profile, so playing the modded game or normal FTL will both use the same profile.

You're not dumb if you're doing stuff wrong. I goofed it the first try.
