The Rebel Captain in the Cruiser barely had time to shout "Abandon ship!" before he was overwhelmed by the following explosion.

"Pelican here. All systems are green. There's been some minor hull damage but it'll add character like all the other scars" Eden said, taking a sigh of relief.
Lux was on the comms with Bren. "That was reckless of you! You could have gotten yourself and Ruwen killed off... why in the galaxy would you take on a Rebel cruiser like that? This isn't an episode of Captain Awesome where taking out the lead ship makes the others stop functioning... I don't even think that tactic works on the Mantis"

She then focused her attention on Jake, putting on a wide smile rather than her usual smile "Thank the stars that our Captain of Captains was here to bail you out..."
She muttered "Finally..."

"I wasn't gonna let those bigots kill off inocent people just for being aliens...." he thought about his words...and then thought about himself and the slugs

He frowned a bit realizing how he has been acting

"Stay in the medbay, and finish your restoration process. That's an order. When your memories are close to 100% recovered, you'll be able to man your station. Otherwise, do that restoration." Jake demanded. He didn't want WOL aimlessly wandering around the ship. He left the medbay, and went to the cockpit.[/quote]

"Ah, yes, that would make the most sense wouldn't it?" responded the engi. "Very well then, if my confinement to this room will stop me from being a detriment, than I have no choice but to obey" he said before the doors to the room slid shut.

The engi sat down on a bed, deep in contemplation. Eventually, he drifted off into a deep sleep.

Eden brought the Pelican towards the wreckage of the Rebel cruiser and opened up the cargo bay doors. "So Eden, why do you not have any concerns about taking orders from Jake?" Lux asked her as the cannibals suited up and began retrieving large pieces of the destroyed ship. Augment gained: Wrecked Cruiser... just kidding
"I do have concerns about taking orders from a kid" Eden replied, leaning back in her chair "Just like I have concerns over operations against Rebel ships where the crew can get rather... violent."
She patted her engorged belly and felt several kicks in response. "But I've had my fair share of encounters with Captains of his age and even younger... you ever seen how quickly a Mantis matures?"
Lux shook her head "I heard they reproduce in huge clutches and are combat-ready in less than a year."
"They're combat-ready once they hatch" Eden explained "If it wasn't for the high rate of infant attrition and the fact that they're pretty terrible with maintaining starships, the galaxy would be overrun with them..."
Lux looked... concerned.
"Point is, most of their Captains are younger than you. Some, like the legendary Kazaaak...clicker are older than General Turzil but they're all children" Eden continued "So if your boyfriend over there is some sort of secret tactical genius by the Federation, I'm inclined to believe them. Besides, he knows where the Rebels are doing something really big and I follow the action."

Lux nodded "I see..."
"Hey don't worry about it. Besides, I know he's listening in to our conversation via your commlink" Eden said "By the way Jake, I'll have trained your girlfriend to usurp you once this mission is over."
Both Eden and Lux laughed, although Lux's shrill laugh sounded rather... nervous "You're kidding, right?"
"You won't know until your training is complete."

Bren had Ruwen go out and salvage some of the parts, Ruwen's unique body allowed him to survive in a vacuume without a suit all he needed was an air supply.

"How he is looking Gorlag?" Bren asked

'Umm really good Captain" he said a bit nervous, "I'm not your captain, just having you work cause we are low staffed" Bren said as Ruwen brought back a nice chunk of salvage

"2 drone kits, a couple of missiles, a broken missile launcher (scrap) and a few other odds and end" Gorlag said, "Well better then nothing I guess, I'm not about to try and get into Eden's terf while they are salvaging their own ship" Bren said shutting the airlock doors and locking them.

"and Gorlag...listen, I'm sorry for...well my experience painted slugs as terrible people...so I wanted to apologize, at least to all slugs...I still hate you for what you did to me and my sister, but not all slugs are like you..."

Gorlag smiled a bit, "I understand...but as for you being my captain, its clear you need help, you seem to be out for the rebels...let me join you, I'll be quiet (meaning I won't control him for a lot of important stuff outside of combat) and let you do the important things, I'll just be another pair of hands" he offered

"...alright then...now get to work fixing the sensors, tool kit is right up here with me I'll pass it to ya" he said sighing a bit and turning off the coms

Ruwen also had a smile on his face, Bren was learning the hardest of all lessons, the lesson of Mercy, to forgive and be merciful to those who have harmed you, that was a challenge at some point would have to face...

He then remembered the metal eaters, or to those who can't understand him, Lanius...those monsters, they could never be reasoned with. (or so he thinks)

Jake ordered the crew to not collect scrap. The others needed it far more than they did.

On the commlink, Jake heard Lux and Eden talking about his youthful command. When Eden acknowledged his presence, he jumped in, jokingly.

"Oy! With my slick moves and a ship like this, even YOU won't surpass me, Eden!" He said, laughing. "And FYI, Lux isn't my 'girlfriend!'" With that, he realized that might've not been the smartest thing to say. He meant it jokingly, but did he just offend Lux? Naaah! Lux didn't like him like that, right? Jake suddenly realized that he'd never thought about a relationship with Lux, like that. Well, maybe...

Jakes' thoughts were interrupted when Sarah suddenly appeared. "That fighting style, genius really. Strategy like that take patience and focus, things most cadets don't have the focus for. Other captains think 'Target their weapons and evade their shots!' It is the mark of a wise Captain to use your pre-existing surroundings to your advantage, like you did with those expert gravity assists," It might've been Jakes' imagination, but he thought that Sarah sounded a little frantic, or nervous. But there was no reason for Sarah to be nervous, so he quickly dismissed the thought.

"Well, thanks!" Jake said. That was high praise from a being who had probably seen tons of futuristic fighting techniques far beyond Jakes comprehension.

"Actually," Sarah said, reading his thoughts, "I've seen countless distinguished officers fail where you succeeded, during battles such as this."

Jake realized the comms were still open with Lux, and shut them off - not wanting to disturb her.

Lux laughed in her usual manner at Jake's remark "Not your girlfriend? I'm only a spacesuit and an FTL drive away from being so"
Clearly he prefers the love of a starship over people, she thought to herself, Considering how flustered he gets whenever Sarah speaks.

"So what's the inventory like?" Eden asked her crew in the cargo bay of the Pelican. The artificial gravity had been switched off to allow easy transport and securing of materials. Right now however due to the urgency and haste of the scrap collection, everything was floating freely. The Rebel Fleet no doubt would be dropping in soon to find out what happened to their checkpoint.
"Well, a lot of the materiel was destroyed in the battle but we did find some explosives, drone parts and a few broken weapons" one of the cannibals explained "We also found this..."
They brought out the body of a man who's body was frozen and broken into two pieces. He was still clutching a cup of frozen tea. Eden chuckled "Looks like he tried hiding in the middle of the battle..."
She glanced over at Lux who was busy talking to Jake.
"Be discreete" Eden ordered her crew "That bastard probably wouldn't have hesitated to open fire on a quarantined world. He doesn't deserve a burial with any honours."
She then returned back to the helm to prepare the ship to jump into the Nebula sector.

"Finished with all the repairs we could, but we need to have some real repairmen on here. "Bren said, "But I should hold for the next jump" he explained over the com channels

"Also our Slug prisoner Gorlag...he will be riding here with working his debt as a pirate, so no attacking him, if he causes a problem let me know and I'l ldeal with him alright" Bren said (yeah he isnt' a main character eye, just a crew mate who can have some comments during fights and moments)

Jumping back in time like 2 seconds

Right before Jake flipped off the radio, he heard Lux's peculiar comment about an FTL Drive and spacesuit... He frowned a little, having no idea what to make of the comment. I guess it's just Lux being Lux, nothing to worry about.

Jake went back onto a regular channel, broadcasting to the entire fleet. "This is Fleet Commander Jake Collins calling all members of the fleet. I'm going to check on Crewmen WOLs' status. Then, I will scout ahead to the next sector, and will give you guys the all-clear to proceed behind me."

Jake turned off the radio and walked to the medbay. "WO-" He began. Then he realized WOL was fast-asleep. He decided not to awaken WOL, because for all he knew sleep was a crucial part of the restoration process. "Sorry," Jake whispered, slipping out of the room. As he exited, he turned off the lights of the medbay.

He went back to the cockpit and got on the radio. "All right, WOL seems to be fine for now. I'm scouting ahead to the next sector, wait fot the go-ahead to proceed."

His crew got into position, and they lined up with the Exit relay, before doing an FTL jump into it. The relay did the rest, blasting them into the next sector. (I imagine Exit beacons to be these rings of metal. You do a lurch-forward-jump into one, and your jump activates the relay, which shoots you to the next sector. You just FTL-jump through the ring, and it carries you to the next sector)

As soon as they drifted out of FTL (amazingly smooth with the stabilizers!) the output-ring of the relay was lost in dense purple fog. A nebula. Nebula gasses swirled around them. Using the very advanced sensors, they were unable to locate anything at this beacon other than dense clouds. An empty beacon. Long range sensors were pretty much offline from the fog, but they detected pretty powerful ion-storms deep within the nebula. (Though they couldn't pinpoint where the storms occurred)

Jake got on the ansible, which crackled from nebula interference. "This is Fleet Commander Jake Collins. You are go to proceed."

"Never liked Nebulas....never know whats out here" Bren said, "I've heard stories of fallen ships, driven by the ghosts of the lost crew, on some journeys they say if you hear the sounds of a siren you need to leave or you will be attacked by the crew desperetely wanting your map data to find their way home" Bren said

'At least thats what the slavers told us"

"Its an old story slugs tell each other, although...hate to admit in these nebulas anything can happen" Gorlag said

"So lead the way Fleet Commander"
