Uncharted nebulae can also mean we can make up even more crazy stuff for events. Whereas the Mantis sector is probably full of boarding parties and shouts of "Foolish meatsacks!"

"Don't Slugs also hang out in nebulae?" Lux asked.
Eden nodded "They rely on their telepathic abilities more than anything else. They also go down very easily once caught."

Sorry! I'll correct it now! My mistake...

"Yes. I. Understand" Said the engi. His voice came out strangely, tones rising and falling, as if he had no idea how to control it. The engi paused before he resumed speaking, searching for an appropriate tone of voice.

"I. Have. Something. To. Ask. Of. You. WOL. Why. Do. You. Call. Me. By. That. Name?" He said slowly, but steadily.
"WOL is your name," Jake said, worried about his long-time friend. "It's how people address you. If I want to talk about you, I'd refer to you by your name. My name is Jake."

Jake turned to Sarah. "Is there any Backups Engis have? Do they locally copy files? Is there some kind of 'Cloud Backup' that we can restore his memories from? Does he have any backup memory cards?"

"I have know Idea," Sarah said, her eyes widening. "I'm sorry. But maybe you could ask him. The data on that disk includes files all Engis are born with. This includes basic data on Engi structure and mechanics. He might already know if there is a way to restore his software."

Jake turned back to WOL. "Do you know if standard Engis keep backups of their data somewhere? Can you somehow restore your files? Is there some kind of Cloud Backup we can use?" He asked, speaking slowly.

On a previous RP I made, my character was an Engi named 'Error'. The Rebels had screwed with his programming, to the point of permanently damaging him. The RP failed, but this reminded me of Error. The reason his name was 'Error' was because the memory file containing his name was corrupted, and he was thus called Error.

EDIT

Our current positional status:

New Ship is at Safe Beacon, 1 jump away from Exit and Distress Beacons
Robin + Pelican are at Distress Beacon, 1 jump away from Exit Beacon (So it's a 1-jump-detour)

The Exit Beacon leads to Sector 3, a Nebula (JUST TO CLARIFY: None of us have made it to the Exit Beacon yet, and thus none of us are in the Nebula sector.)

Just to clear things up! Have fun! :)

"WOL..." Whispered the engi softly. That was his name WOL? It sounded strange when saying it, but it felt relatively familiar. He responded to the human, "Jake's" question.

"According to what I currently know, we, the engi, as a species do not have a collective of which to store memories. Supposedly, there should be a program automatically present that should restore corrupt memories in the event of data loss. However, considering the amount of damage I've sustained previously, the data is far too corrupted to be restored." He concluded.

"But there may be another option" added the engi. "The data may be corrupted, yes, but it is still present within me. Perhaps by the use of an outside force, I can restore the memories that were lost."

"Outside forces? What kind of outside forces?" Sarah asked, sweetly.
"Yeah, is there a switch or something?" Jake asked. Less than a second later, he realized how stupid that sounded. Sarah gave him a look that said, "What kind of a question was that?" Jakes eyes widened in embarrassment.

While Sarah and Jake poked and prodded at WOL, Kyrie pulled herself up on a bed in the medbay. She watched the three attempt to communicate, her thoughts wandering. As they did often, it seemed. Her thoughts returned to the ever-present past: the days before the academy. The days when she used to sit and listen to the stories of the superior human captains of "the good old days."

"Yes, those were the days I grew up in. Not all these other things running around space." Her dad leaned back in the plush recliner. "Yeah, things were better then. Wasn't it, Ari?"

"Oh yes, they were better then." Kyrie's mom would always seem to agree whenever her dad told these stories. And they all seemed to have a human as the leader, the main character. The other races were always inferiors. I never even noticed until the academy. Kyrie remembered the day she was leaving for earth, to go to the Federation Academy for the first time. That was two years ago. She remembered what her dad had told her before she left.

"Remember what I taught you, now. Remember we're the boss there, just like here. You got to show them what a real species looks like. You hear me?" Kyrie had nodded and smiled. This event had replayed in her head night after night, especially now, though. She had dreamed more than once that her dad had stormed in to a class right when she was laughing with an engi or zoltan. He had always stood there in the dream, fuming. He had always said: "I don't know who you are, but you're not an Alfarow." She often imagined that's what he would say now.

They were waiting patiently for WOL to respond, when Sarah noticed Kyrie, thinking. A viaually-based memory was playing through her mind, and it was so close to the surface that Sarah couldn't not scan it. It was a memory of Kyries father, telling stories of human supremacy.

"Jake, can you please look after WOL? I need to check up on the engines."

"Yeah, I think I got this under control. I'll notify you of any progress," Jake said.

"Kyrie, could you assist me?" Sarah said.

They went to the engine room, where Kyrie noticed nothing was wrong with the engines. (Not trying to control your character, just some obvious little things, not directly linked to your character. Is that ok?)

"I saw the memory of your father. Is everything OK? Would you like to talk about it?" Sarah asked.

Yeah that's fine

"It's fine. It's just a memory I can't seem to shake. Always comes up when there's nothing else to think about, like at night." Kyrie leaned back against the wall. "I don't know. For some reason I feel guilty for abandoning what I've been taught, even when I know it's wrong. I don't know what to think."

Want to apologize for lack of responses recently. Some relatives of mine arrived from the airport yesterday, it's been really busy recently.

The engi gave a blank stare at the human, Jake. A switch? Really? He remembered almost nothing, but he knew that no one person could be that dull. "No, not like a switch, something more like a... Data recovery process you could say" Responded the engi. Suddenly, the strange being announced that they were going to the engine room, accompanied by the other human "Kyrie".

This left only WOL and Jake inside the room. They sat in silence for a while, until the engi spoke up. "So... You seem to be quite knowledgeable with me. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of person, err, Engi was I like before?" He started off.

"Attention, this is a Rebel checkpoint. In order to use the exit beacon, you must take a holding pattern at these co-ordinates and open your cargo bays for inspection."
A large Rebel Cruiser and several Riggers were protecting the exit beacon for the sector.
"Must have been recent, probably just arrived after that black hole was deployed in order to catch any survivors" Eden remarked.

A ship that was undergoing inspection suddenly peeled out from the line and tried to make a run for the beacon. The cruiser opened fire on it and the ship exploded rather violently. Whatever it had been carrying was very explosive.
"Any ideas Bren?" Lux asked "Because that cruiser looks rather scary and I don't see Jake's ship anywhere... maybe he's hiding behind one of those distant moons over there while he waited for us?"

Just saying... it'd be kinda silly if we had jumped to a space station, destroyed two pirate crews and took all their stuff in the time it took for WOL to reboot and have a conversation.

"I'll run distraction, you teleport your friends onto that cruiser, we take it out, we can get all these civilians out of here" he said, "And if I don't make it, at least I died trying to help others" he said

He thought for a moment, "Ruwen unshackle our prisoner, get him to work on our engines, we are gonna need everyone on this" Bren said over his coms

"Are you sure" Ruwen asked.

"Yeah, doubt he wants to die to some rebel scum, so lets get his comunity service up right now" he said

Gorlag was surprised to hear this but hurry to the engines as Bren got closer, hailing the Crusier, "Hey Rebel Cruiser, the...pride of the humans, wow real original, yeah how about you pick on someone a little more...alien" Bren said in a taunting tone to them, charging up the weapons. he could tell this cruiser had 2 layers of shield and a burst laser mark 2 and some kind of bomb launcher, this would not be a fun fight

"We'd have to make this quick and only we're sure everyone is here" Lux said "We can't just run in and..."
Almost as if Bren had shouted his name before charging at the monster, Lux sighed.
Eden remarked "Personally, I would have slipped a bit of money their way. You'd be surprised at how corrupt checkpoint guards are"

The Rebel Cruiser didn't even turn in response to the approaching ship. Their Captain appeared on screen - a bald man with a monocular and a moustache. He even had a cup of tea in one hand. Seeing the old Robin heading towards him at high speed, the man gently slammed his cup down on a plate and said "My word! Just who do you think you are?"
Before any answer could be given he added "Sod that! I don't care who you are, but no one defies the Rebel fleet!"
One of the Riggers moved in to intercept the Robin; their Captain taunted "Die you piece of glowing crap! I wouldn't even trust your kind with powering the loo!"
