"Yes. I. Understand" Said the engi. His voice came out strangely, tones rising and falling, as if he had no idea how to control it. The engi paused before he resumed speaking, searching for an appropriate tone of voice.

"I. Have. Something. To. Ask. Of. You. WOL. Why. Do. You. Call. Me. By. That. Name?" He said slowly, but steadily.

"WOL is your name," Jake said, worried about his long-time friend. "It's how people address you. If I want to talk about you, I'd refer to you by your name. My name is Jake."

Jake turned to Sarah. "Is there any Backups Engis have? Do they locally copy files? Is there some kind of 'Cloud Backup' that we can restore his memories from? Does he have any backup memory cards?"

"I have know Idea," Sarah said, her eyes widening. "I'm sorry. But maybe you could ask him. The data on that disk includes files all Engis are born with. This includes basic data on Engi structure and mechanics. He might already know if there is a way to restore his software."

Jake turned back to WOL. "Do you know if standard Engis keep backups of their data somewhere? Can you somehow restore your files? Is there some kind of Cloud Backup we can use?" He asked, speaking slowly.

On a previous RP I made, my character was an Engi named 'Error'. The Rebels had screwed with his programming, to the point of permanently damaging him. The RP failed, but this reminded me of Error. The reason his name was 'Error' was because the memory file containing his name was corrupted, and he was thus called Error.

Our current positional status:

New Ship is at Safe Beacon, 1 jump away from Exit and Distress Beacons
Robin + Pelican are at Distress Beacon, 1 jump away from Exit Beacon (So it's a 1-jump-detour)

The Exit Beacon leads to Sector 3, a Nebula (JUST TO CLARIFY: None of us have made it to the Exit Beacon yet, and thus none of us are in the Nebula sector.)

"WOL..." Whispered the engi softly. That was his name WOL? It sounded strange when saying it, but it felt relatively familiar. He responded to the human, "Jake's" question.

"According to what I currently know, we, the engi, as a species do not have a collective of which to store memories. Supposedly, there should be a program automatically present that should restore corrupt memories in the event of data loss. However, considering the amount of damage I've sustained previously, the data is far too corrupted to be restored." He concluded.

"But there may be another option" added the engi. "The data may be corrupted, yes, but it is still present within me. Perhaps by the use of an outside force, I can restore the memories that were lost."

"Shields are good but a ship with a good set of engines is a ship that survives" Eden said over the comms as the Pelican whooshed past the first pirate ship. The pirates in response had launched a missile - a high-speed, low-impact Leto. It bypassed the Pelican's shields easily but skipped over the hull as the cargo vessel lurched hard to the side. The stray projectile went in for another pass but it had then run out of fuel and exploded as part of a "safety" measure missiles had.

Seeing as how The Robin was closing in, the pirates quickly focused their attention on it, preparing to fabricate another missile for launch, along with charging up their Mk.I Burst Laser.
The second pirate ship was only armed with a Heavy Laser but they did have a teleporter; however most of their crew was onboard the station and still looting.

Think of them as the basic Mantis Interceptor with purple pirate markings. Since it's essentially Sector 2, enemy ships don't exactly have high-impact weaponry quite yet and I'm not cruel enough to consider saying "Screw it, they've got a Burst Laser Mk.II in Sector 2 because why the fudge not?"

Bren smiled, "Firing this new crystal weapon" he said and the double shot of crystals were launched at their weapons.

"Lets see why the crystals were so powerful" he thought as he watched the crystals hone in on the enemy ship

The Burst Laser went offline but the missile weapon (typically) stayed operational and they lobbed it right at the life support (also typically).

Meanwhile the Pelican was pulling up alongside the station. The teleporter activated and Lux found herself on the enemy ship. A Human and an Engi were rather surprised to find themselves attacked by crazy cannibal pirates who tore into them mercilessly, grabbing and biting into their bodies. Blood and coolant spilled across the deck while Lux just stood there, watching. It's like a zombie movie... she thought to herself. As a doctor, the sight of blood was nothing new. However, the grisly way the pirates went out was...
The Gift however had suppressed her gag reflex so she had to just watch as the pirates threw the dismembered limbs about like a bunch of children.

The pirate ship shook as several burst laser shots impacted with the enemy's teleporter. "Now they're stranded" Eden remarked.

Yes, the crazy cannibals can try and eat Engies but it's not really recommended due to not having any nutritional value.

Bren was lucky he was able to avoid the missile...or rather the missile missed its original destination hitting an empty room

"Damn it hull breach" Bren called out

"I'm on it" Ruwen said running out to fix it

"How is he gonna fix it" he thought to himself as he launched the two old laser shots at the shields, and was charging up more crystals to fire at the weapons

With Ruwen he formed what could be described as a crystal mask to cover his mouth and stepped into the room forming crystals to meld to the floor, letting him get closer to the hull breach and not get sucked in, he got closer and closer and used his crystalmancy to form crystal over the breach as a temporary fix.

Bren could see on the camera what was happening, "Nice going Ruwen, you are awesome!" he said firing the crystals yet again

Their shields held up because these pirates had also invested in somewhat sturdier shields (typical that they'd just happen to have 3 bars) Then they stopped firing because their weapons room was destroyed and breached in many places by the following Crystal shots.
They began spinning up their FTL drive instead and prepared to run away.

Their shields held up because these pirates had also invested in somewhat sturdier shields (typical that they'd just happen to have 3 bars) Then they stopped firing because their weapons room was destroyed and breached in many places by the following Crystal shots.
They began spinning up their FTL drive instead and prepared to run away.

Bren smirked, "Gotcha" he said launching the crystals at their piloting, he was gonna take out the leader, who knows they might even surrender

However...

"SHIT!"

That Leto missile hit the piloting dead on, thankfully no hull breach but there was a fire, "RUWEN HELP!" he called out and Ruwen hurried to his room, Bren hoped the autofire hit their piloting or else he might not have time to manually aim another one

The pirate ship spun out of control as the pilot couldn't dodge all the shots and the helm exploded in his face. He tried to hail the Robin. "Ugghh... you win! But it's no matter, the others have probably made off with all the loot" he groaned "We'll give you what we recovered, just don't kill us!"

Eden responded "You mean we have made off with all the loot. We've got your friend's ship AND their crew is stranded on the space station."
"Damn you!" the pirate coughed "Should have known you freaks were behind this!"

Lux remarked to Bren over the comms "That was an exciting detour. Although if you were in my shoes, you'd probably want to become a vegan after what I've witnessed..."

The pirate ship spun out of control as the pilot couldn't dodge all the shots and the helm exploded in his face. He tried to hail the Robin. "Ugghh... you win! Lux remarked to Bren over the comms "That was an exciting detour. Although if you were in my shoes, you'd probably want to become a vegan after what I've witnessed..."

Bren grunted a bit holding the fire exstingisher, Ruwen also working to stamp out the flames

"....maybe if you wanted mercy you shouldn't have become pirates, now what do you offer for surender, if it isn't good you die" Bren said in a stern tone, clearly not amused by the fire in the cabin

"Hang on Bren, they've surrendered and it doesn't matter what the hell they offer" Lux said.
"The damned station was just some Federation science place" the pirate angrily grumbled "Probably looking at a pulsar or some other astronomical thing. Not worth the effort in coming out here..."
Eden chimed in "How about instead of killing him, we capture him and see if there's a bounty at the next port? I'm feeling rather empty myself..."
