Again. Rebel Stronghold without decision. It's one of my favorite sectors. And most ships' starting layouts can take that Flaghship and the loot is SO beneficial, especially early.

First jump, distress call. Looks like one of those events where you might lose a crew, but I go for it. Find an Engi in the freezer (or something like that). Cool! It can be on doors and damage control. (Oh, little did I know...)
Next fight, two rebs board me in the helm. So I send Human Weapons guy to aid the Human Pilot, and Engi goes on Wepz. Whoops, it's a double boarding event, and another reb boards in the cloak room. Engi goes back to doors so I can vent. Meanwhile, boarders are beating up on my guys, Pilot has to flee. Send him to doors, Engi goes to fight. While doors are back to L1, other boarder heads to weapons, so I start venting that. Meanwhile, my Pilot-on-doors takes a Heavy Laser right in the face and dies. Then my security team has to flee to the Medbay. I guess the pair of boarders got retrieved and died with their ship. I heal up and kill off the last boarder, then repair things. Back to three crew, but I still have a little over 20 HP. Only 14 scrap; still a long way from L3 Cloak.
Human Weapons goes to Pilot; Engi takes the Glaive. Third jump is a fight against a Rock pirate, with missile and Heavy Laser. No prob, I can cloak both those shots. So I do. And the missile still hits me in the Weapons. Fuck! So Engi gets to fixing. On their next volley, I take a missile in Engines, and it breaches. Engi has the Weapons fixed and is charging the Glaive. I may have been hit elsewhere, I don't remember exactly, but soon after I did take a Heavy Laser in the Weapons - and it set two fires! Engi tried valiantly to put them out, but had to flee to the Medbay. I vented Weapons. Then I take a hit in O2 and later in Doors. Zoltan Engineer couldn't get the breach fixed all the way, so had to go for healing. Went back to repairs. Engi tried to fix O2, which got hit again. I may have cloaked something, but eventually it got hit, too. Zoltan had to flee to Medbay after getting the breach fixed, because O2 wasn't fixed yet.
I sent my Pilot to go try and fix something, as there was no dodging going on. But it was useless, FTL had not been charging for some time so there was no jumping away, I couldn't dodge anything once the cloak was down, there were too many things to fix, not much air was in the ship, Engi suffocated while trying to fix Weapons, and eventually all I could do was watch my ship get blown up.

[Edit] Next: Mantis B, Hard. I fight a pirate, rescue some civilians, and a Mantis joins my crew! Three Mantises, w00t! (Again, it's a setup.)
I fight a ship, boarding with only 2 Mantises, because it's got a missile, and I want to have as much evasion as possible. Yes, I do have a defense drone. It says, "Oh, was I supposed to shoot that?" The Medbay gets taken out and has a very large breach in it.
Mantises win the fight, teleport back. I send all three Mantises to the Medbay to repair. LOLMANTISREPAIRS! One of the boarders has to leave pretty quickly, then the other boarder, too. Pilot Mantis had full health, but it was a damn big breach, and LOLMANTISREPAIRS! It has to leave, too. So I've got three Mantises with little health, a breached and broken Medbay. Fuck you, FTL!
Got to find a store. I jump, nothing. I jump again - and actually pay for a sector scan. Ah! there's a store in a couple jumps. I beeline there. Say, do you have a Clone Bay?* (*Wait for it.) No. How about a repair drone? Engi for hire? Nope. No siree. Anyone for hire? No. Thanks for nothing. Fuck you, FTL.
I go to a distress call, where an outpost is being attacked by an auto scout. Boarding drone to the rescue! Many hours later, it finally destroys the ship, but standard reward, nothing to help with my dilemma. I manage to make it out of sector one, avoiding fights.
Sector two, there's a store! It has a Clone Bay! (*Now) Oh, I'm a fucking idiot! If the Medbay is broken, and I replace it with a Clone Bay, it will probably still be broken, so any Mantis who dies trying to fix the breach won't get cloned! Dammit! Oh, wait, page two - system repair drone! I can afford it! Breach fixed, Medbay fixed. Mantises healed. And the mission resumes.
But since I haven't beaten Hard with the Mantis B yet, I'm sure there's still more Fuck you, FTL to come.

The max weapons power for an enemy is 10 , it is even HARDCODED in the game as a max of 10.
Maybe it was 4 of the burst laser mk 2 (the one the kestrel starts with)
BTW : you could have gotten 3 shot mixed with mk 3 (mk 3 fires 4 shots , mk 2 fires 3 , and mk 1 is the same as a dual laser (2 shots))

^ I've done that myself. Except my default vanilla delayed the fleet by 10000 jumps and had this AI ship called the Nexus.
I remember back in 2013, when I almost got the Crystal Cruiser. Everything seemed to go perfectly, I had already gotten into the crystal sector and I was just one jump away from completing the quest! I was engaged in a fight, trying to survive as my ftl was charging. It was just a little tiny bit away from being fully charched, and then... my ship got destroyed. I sat there for a bit, stunned. I was so close... I never managed to get to the crystal sector after that.
