Im sorry if this is a repost but i dont have the internet to view every page-
I have a problem where if I run the modman.exe i get the terminal window, but it disappears less than a second after it comes up. The error message inside says,
"Error: Could not find or load main class: net.vhati.modmanager.FTLmodmanager"
*note there could be some incorrect phrases there its hard to see when it keeps closing*
After checking if I had an updated Java i just recently downloaded the newest update, after the download of SMM, but I dont think that will affect it?
I also have Python downloaded but i have no idea how/what/when/where to use it
thanks for any advice i may or may not get in the future

Have you extracted the zip into a real folder? It won't work if you double-click the contents of a zip directly.

Another possibility: "modman.exe" is not standalone. It will crash if it can't find "modman.jar" et al in its folder.

Just as the Java runtime makes Java apps runnable, the Python runtime makes Python apps runnable. The latter is not necessary for Slipstream. Its predecessor, Grognak's Mod Manager was a Python app.

I have extracted it, but I cannot find such "modman.jar," although I could be deluded by my not knowing where it is supposed to be ;)
"et al..." do not understand
Also for your information I am on windows 8... any problems that could be creating?
Oh and the Python stuff is clear now.
and the text shows up points to the FTLmodmanager java file...?

Oh, you went to GitHub and grabbed the developer code by mistake.

Here's the build meant for users, on SourceForge.

Version 1.4 - [Windows]

It will crash if it can't find "modman.jar" [among other things, also from the zip] in its folder.

If you have trouble running it as an administrator, see this post.

When i try to run the game it uses the normal FTL, not advanced edition... so instead of C://program files x86//gog.com//faster than light//resources (paths NOT EXACT im in a hurry here) i directed it to C://gog games//FTL advanded edition//resources (it is actually spelled Advanded edition), and it opened the Advanced Edition when i clicked Run Game after patching it. But after it loads it then crashes, with this error message (minus quotes):

'Assertion failed!

Program: C:\GOG Games\FTL Advanded Edition\FTLGame.exe
File: src/rapidxml/rapidxml.hpp
Line: 1383

Expression: text

For more information on how your program can cause an assertion failure, see the Visual C++ documentation on asserts

(Press retry to debug the applicaiton - JIT must be enabled)'

and then it gives me three options, Abort, Retry, and Ignore. All of them do absolutely nothing except close FTL.

I was patching a custom ship i had attempted to make and the Extra Starting Scrap thing. Any ideas?

When FTL crashes, it means a problem with one of the mods you have installed. So your ship mod is an obvious candidate, and most likely the cause -- comparing your mod's code with that of other mods might help you spot your mistake. Also, SMM's validate function or the error checker might come in handy here.

Thanks for the help kartoflane, but i already fixed it last night and was so overjoyed i went to bed right affter without bothering to edit my post here. The backups of resource.dat that SMM makes got corrupted, so in SMM's backups folder i deleted backup.dat.bak and resource.dat.bak, and then i reinstalled FTL (I use GOG, theres a different process for Steam). just search FTL modding Assertion Failed on google (LOL i probably should have thought of that earlier).

Also, your superluminal editor is brilliant! Other than the ship hulls (i have no artistic talent regarding that whatsoever) it makes creating ships a breeze! Is there a way to save multiple ships into one .ftl file?

Nevermind, solution on page 35

Patching failed: java.io.FileNotFoundException: .\backup\data.dat.bak (The system cannot find the path specified)

How do I fix this? I already ran the tool as admin. There is no old data.dat.bak in the folder.
