I'm having a problem where when I double click "modman" or "modman_admin" it starts up and instantly closes the program in less then a second. I have no idea what the issue is.

@Spanky
Find modman-log.txt in SMM's directory, and post its contents here between [ code ][ /code ] tags

I'm getting some warnings when trying to install Captain's edition into FTL. The end result is that the mod doesn't appear to be installed. I click patch and launch, nothing seems to have changed. Here is the log:

You have to delete Slipstream's backups, delete the .dat files in FTL's resource folder, and download clean .dats - Steam, for example, will redownload them if you try to verify the game's cache or whatever it was that it claims it verifies.

I Can't find this file at all, but when I try to run modman it says something about an error, it can't find something.

I did that just now, same warnings. I'm running FTL 1.5.10 - is that a problem? If so, how do I downgrade via steam?

Yeah, downgrading via Steam won't happen. I find it odd that absolutely nothing seems to happen, though...

@AngryAmish
No, it's not a problem. You only need to update SMM's backups for it to work. To do that, follow the intructions
here, to the letter. There is no way for SMM not to work after that. Alternatively, see if anything
in this post helps.
@Spanky
Read
this
If that doesn't fix it, we'll need to get the error log somehow:
Try running SMM from the command line -- go to SMM's directory, and shift-right click on empty space inside the folder. There should be an option in the context menu along the lines of "Open command line here". Now, type the following command:
java -jar modman.jar
Any errors preventing the manager from starting should get printed in the console -- post them here.

Thanks downloading from that link worked. I'm guessing I had a bad version the first time, but it works now, so thanks again.

Bug Report: I would like to point out a new .xml file in the Advanced Edition. It is called misc.xml. This file contains a lot of text strings. Some of these strings either start or end with an empty space. When SMM appends this file, it removes these spaces. This is unwanted, as those spaces are preferred. SMM needs a special exception for this file, so that it doesn't remove those spaces.
