"Life signs?" Thought WOL to himself. Naturally, there would always be a chance of survivors within abandoned ships. On most encounters, they would be relieved to be rescued, and would request to be dropped off at the nearest space station.

Sometimes, on rare occasion, they would already have been driven insane, by the time the crew found them. While the crew would try to help as best they could, if the survivor was too far gone, they would have to be left behind, there are already too many things to manage onboard a ship.

"Stay on guard" Said WOL silently

(BTW anyone against having mods in this story, by that I mean content from say Captains Edition. Thats sorta thing. I mean lets say for the other ship the ships AI forms an Avatar to help with tasks, using the Avatar from Captains edition, just a thought)

Think of the timeline like this:
1. Pre Rebel War (When the rebels did not exist, and the Federation was just beginning to make new allies with the Engi and the Zoltan. This is when the Robin A (our old ship) was created.

2. Early Rebel War. The technology in this era is equivalent to FTL BEFORE Advanced Edition.

3. Middle of Rebel War. The tech in this era is equivalent to FTL w/ Advanced Edition installed

4. Late Rebel War/Early Post Rebel War. The technology in this era is equivalent to Captains Edition with the Infinite Loot Add-On. This is when the FTL game timeline ends.

5. Distant Future. Long after the Rebel War has been forgotten, there is all new tech. This is the era from which the new ship is from.

The present day of our story takes place somewhere between #2 and #3.

(And yes, IF Jake manages to fix the AI, it would probably be SOMETHING SIMILAR to an AI Avatar. But no spoilers! Let the story play out on its own!

so where are we?

Jake wanted to take a look at the engines system. For whatever reason, the Federation woman hadn't shown them to her.

The engines room was in the same layout as the weapons room, with a pulsating purple holographic display. In the center, there was a large glowing block. The engines core. But above it, there was a large glowing block attached to the ceiling. Jake saw a sticky-note attached to the upper block. Proabably something fogotten by the researchers. He took off the neglected scientific notation, and red what it said. Scrawled there, in black marker, was the words

"Temporal Drive???"

"Time travel..." Jake murmured to himself.

The pretty federation woman crept up behind him. "We noticed you weren't preparing for takeoff procedures. But then I realized I forgot to show you the engine room. The engines have a much greater evasion rating - and FTL Recharge is much faster. As you can see, the temporal drive is above you - what this ship used to travel back in time. We have no idea how it works, and though you can supply it with power - it doesn't do anything. From our scans, it's designed to control ionic energy. But we don't really know other than that."

If we do eventually get an AI Avatar to control the ship, I will do the AI Avatar

"Now please, begin departure procedure." The pretty woman said. "Good luck on your mission. And don't be fooled by how advanced this ship is. While it will be able to completely demolish any present-day ships, Black Hole Induction technology has immense destructive power. Just remember the Federation fleet that was wiped out. It was wiped out by a single Rebel Scout, with a Black Hole weapon," With that, the woman left, and Jake walked back to the helm. Jake would never underestimate the powers of Black Holes, no matter how many fancy things were on his ship.

When Jake reached the cockpit, he sat down, somewhat exhausted. There was a long hiss as the atmosphere around the ship was removed, and a clang as the roof retracted high above him. He casually realized that this Federation base had TWO massive hangers... impressive, really. As the radio chattered about clearing things for launch, Jake thought about his new ship. 400 years... Four HUNDRED years in the future... He wondered how culture had changed. He wondered if anyone thought of him as an ancestor. He would love to look himself up in the ships database... It was all right there in front of him. But no - he could not bear to know his death date. Plus, history can re-write itself. And this mission was going to do just that. Make history. For better or worse.

Jake was cleared for launch. He always hated launching from the surface - he always hated having to compensate for gravity and drag. He casually chuckled about how he ensured that he wouldn't need to do that with the Robin - with an in-atmo FTL jump and all. But now he had to focus. The cockpit was INSANELY COMPLEX, hundreds of different options. There was a pane on the screen below him labeled "Launch." He swiped to the left a few times, until the "Launch pane was centered in front of him. Not only did he have cadet-level training, but he was in a ship from centuries in the future. He took a deep breath. In... out... in... out...

He realized that the ship had no landing gear, rather it was using a magnetic field to keep it hovering above the ground. This field automatically varied in intensity, based on speed, thrust etc. It would be like taking off of a pillow. Jake noticed there was an interesting button, labeled "Auto-Rise from Hanger Bay"
'Seemed like it was important so he pressed the glossy touchscreen-button. Suddenly, the magnetic field displayed on the sensors began to elongate. Jake could see out of the window that the ship was slowly rising up - smoothly and gently. It passed the confines of the hanger quickly, and once the ship was well above the hanger, Jake could see on the diagram that is was starting to destabilize. There was an intense beeping sound as this happened. Jake pressed the "Stop Rise" button, and the magnetic field locked in place. Jake could feel the ship sink down to a resting position - just a few feet.

Now, the ship was levitating high above the hanger. Jake activated the engines and took off from his pillar of energy. The magnetic field was torn apart, and the various magnetic field readouts vanished. The ship detected that it was no longer needed! It was the smoothest takeoff ever. After all, they were literally taking off from air.

"I'll go to the left." Kyrie and Lux were at an intersection with four doors. She had to force the door open without power. The room appeared to be a weapon control room, judging by the controls. Other than that it was empty. "There's nothing in this room." She moved on to the next room, which was another empty room. The next was another empty room, then there was the entrance to the cargo bay.

"The cargo bay is over here. I'll see if if they've got anything down there." There was a fair amount of scrap and fuel. "Hey there's a weapon down here! It looks like it's a pike beam."

There was something else, it looked like a huge chunk of crystal, with metal on the end like a cannon. What was it?

(was planning to reveal that the ship had a crystal weapon but hey why not both we need sell fodder LOL)
