That's an interesting point and an astute observation. I've been a gamer for a long time and I've been guilty of that kind of hyper-sensitivity (fallout and x-com). But I've also seen it with the Monster Hunter series. A good game design choice to expand their customer base might be to move to a camera lock-on system like 99% of similar action games have these days. But their fan base tends to become violently opposed to the idea. That's hyper sensitivity sure, but I have to admit also a case of devs listening to the fans as there's still no camera lock function +10 games in.omphaloskepsis wrote:...It's an interesting phenomenon in game forums to see people who apparently tie their personal identities into a game--made by other people--and can't bear to see anyone make a post that implies that the game is anything less than perfect.
The majority of people who post on a game forum are fans. I love this game, as do the majority of posters. There are some features I'd like to see implemented in an FTL2, and other changes I'd like see in the current game. I don't expect any or all of my personal requests to be implemented, but artists and developers need to pay attention to feedback if they want to grow in their craft. IMO, hyper-sensitive types are just lowering the signal to noise ratio, and holding back the game.
I'm also with you. I love this game. I used the cheat trainer once to get enough scrap to have a chance against the boss and I now regret beating it that way. I appreciate how it's meant to be played and I enjoy the challenge. I would love to see some of the features mentioned here implemented but I don't expect it nor do I think that by any mean do I deserve it. I paid for a finished product and I got it. ^_^
On the other hand it's been less than a week since launch and we already have some good mods. I can't wait to see how the mod community here develops and I hope the devs kick it into gear dlc-wise before fans implement some of these ideas for free!
