If you board the station blindly without running a scan first, you get an extra option, because the first two now have a chance of failure associated with them. If you scan the station beforehand, you know it is going to blow up, and you won't lose a crewmember to the event, so there is no need to back off.

Weird. I'll pay more attention next time but I was sure I have never seen more than 2 options there. And I know I've been there many times without first scanning it.

I just had that option show up yesterday, pretty sure it requires Lvl 2 Scanners for the blue option.

In my Rock A with a veteran Rockman away team, I boarded a rebel ship (Rigger I think) that started powering up engines right off the bat. I figured if I was fighting the pilot, he wouldn't be able to jump... bad assumption. Anyway, I killed one of the crewman in the 2v2 and then killed the second one. However, in his last breath as he was falling to the ground, he must have hit the big red "JUMP" button which sent the ship away with only my two Rockmen still left alive on it.
I half expected to meet up with them a few sectors later as they were enjoying their new, mint condition Rigger in total freedom.

I wish there was an event like that. If your crew manages to kill everyone on board, but the ship jumps anyway, you should have a chance (maybe a small chance) to meet up with them in another sector.

I'm in the Slug Home Nebula and one ship is saying "We surrender! Here's an Anti-Bio Beam if you leave us be!" I said "Okay, but I don't want your weapon, I want info." "Fine, here's the location of an experimental cruiser." "Sweet, another ship to unlock!"
So I go to the next sector, and there it is, literally just a hop, skip, and a jump away (well, three jumps actually.) No problem, right? Wrong. First jump is no problem. No event, no nothing. Second jump...that's where things go wrong. First, boarders. A Mantis and two humans. Okay, just vent the ship, herd them into the Medbay. Crisis averted...or it would be if the other ship didn't have an Ion weapon. I must be EXTREMELY unlucky, because every time my Burst Laser III was almost ready to fire, NOPE! ION BLAST, BITCH! Making my weapons have to charge all over again. This happened three times. The entire time I was being hit with lasers. By the time I managed to charge my FTL jump (because I was like "Fuck this, I just need to get to the beacon."), I had maybe 5 hull points left. Hopefully the next jump will have nothing in it so I can repair. Again, NOPE! SURPRISE MANTIS CRUISER!
So damn close to unlocking the Slug ships...so close.

Hmm, maybe not quite so close. That damned ship is as hard to track down as an honest Slug.

Funny enough, I actually found an honest Slug. The ship hails me and asks if I'd like a drink. Slugs, being who they are, I'm considering declining the drink, but if I do so, he'll just attack. I give peace a chance and, against my better judgment, have a drink. It's very slimy and not very tasty at all, but the Slug Is impressed with my trust in him and fixes up my hull and offers me some stuff he wants to sell.

And then there's all those times when a crew member dies JUST BEFORE the oxygen comes back online. Damn it, if he had just 2 more HP, he would have survived.

Gotta upgrade that life support. It can take more damage which is nice against melee and fires, the Slugs cant hack it completely anymore, and it can refill the ship suprefast. Even helps pump some air into rooms with a breach if nearby doors are also open. Cheap to boot. If you're adventurous you can depower it during combat to steal extra power and only occasionally pump extra air when it drops too low for comfort.
A criminally neglected upgrade. Lvl3 is not so good because of the price.
