Unless you're looking for a challenge:
You need a cloak. Also,
A) you have a teleporter + 1-2 ion weapons or
B) you need a good set of weapons, such as a missile and a few lasers, burst or not.

The rest is easy. You can make it even easier by always leaving the crew in 2nd weapon room alive. (Dont shoot that room or the oxygen room)

Without shields sounds pretty extreme to me. I imagine you must have been sporting some pretty serious weaponry to win that one. Because I reckon if you hadn't knocked out pretty much all their weapons by the time your first cloak runs out, you'd be in a fair bit of trouble.

It was hard for sure. I didn't even do it on purpose. I made it to the last stand with the Nesasio after never, EVER finding a shield in a store. The ship was quite decked out otherwise, luckily, and I was able to rip up the boss' shields in 2 volleys and then take him out in 2 more. I also teleported people into his missiles asap in all 3 phases to mitigate what is easily the worst part of the boss. Still, I took a hefty beating in each phase and (IIRC won with less than 10 hull left.

And if you want to see someone win with only 5 laser shots, it's right here. I had said I had no drones and that wasn't entirely true. I didn't have *offensive* drones.

You beat the boss without any offensive weapons or drones? That would mean the only other possible way of taking down the zoltan shields is with crystal ship vengence shots. Somehow I just don't see that happening before you get destroyed or the zotlan shield gets replenished.

Anyway the final boss is not over powered. You really don't need much to take it down. You just have to know the tricks. The more you play the more you'll learn. Cloak, Teleporter, and Defense Drones are your friends. From there all you need is a way to deal some damage.

Sorry, when I said no "offensive" weapons I meant no "damaging" weapons. I had ions.

You didn't do either of the two things that I suggested earlier in the thread:

You had some bad luck with your defence drone missing those two boarding drones, but nevertheless, you shouldn't let that distract you from the bigger picture. The flagship won't kill you with a boarding drone. It will kill you with it's drone swarm and it's rocket barrage. You need to disable those rockets as soon as you possibly can, and save your stealth for dodging the drone swarm.
