Sounds awesome.
But instead of it being a DLC, why not make it a free major update?

Possibly make it a campaign that's unlocked when you beat the first campaign. So if you beat the first campaign on easy, you get the second campaign on easy, but not on normal. Maybe takes the crew that you had from the first campaign become officers on your new capital ship, with new recruits serving under them.

Good idea Boese... in fact, I'd actually love that idea, especially if the following campaign would allow you to carry over your previous ship and crew, while extending the skill limit.
Afterall I dont know about you but both my weapon technican and my Pilot and Engineer reached their skill limit pretty much before sector 4 if they made it that far.

One could suggest this to the developers or make a mod for it.
I would happily volunteer as an event and or story writer for that. :)

(Fun thought, FTL sequel names? Slightly Faster Than FTL?)
Much Slower Than FTL if you're talking capital ships.
FTL: Speed of Light ?

I'd buy it! Though I think we'd need capital ships as somewhat common enemies for balance.
Personal fleet: Kestrel A & B, Engi A&B, Stealth A, Mantis A&B, Federation A&B, Slug A, Rock A, Zoltan A&B and Unidentified A.
