I just installed the game at my office. This method does not require you to install it first, so you can either do a USB portable version or install it on an computer in which you don't have admin privileges, with just a couple hundred mb's worth of download; your call.
(DISCLAIMER: I have done this on the Windows version of the game. I have no friggin' idea about how to do it on Linux or Mac.)
WHAT YOU NEED:
- FTL's DRM-free executable (so I guess you'll have to essentially have it bought from the webpage AFAIK)
-
Innounp 0.37, which will extract the files from the .exe installer (there are a lot of .exe installer extractors around, but this one doesn't require installation)
-
Peazip portable (in case you need to decompress Innounp's RAR on the site. It's entirely optional though)
HOW TO DO IT
1- Put FTL's setup and Innounp on a folder
2- Go to start->run and write "cmd" on the little window (for Windows Vista or below) or just type it on the search bar on W7.
3- Navigate to your folder on the command prompt.
4- write (without quotes) "Innounp -x FTL.exe" (here my installer is called "FTL.exe", but yours might be called differently.)
5- Go to the {app} folder, execute FTL's .exe
6- Blow up Rebels.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
· Make sure Innounp's version is 0.37 or higher, it will error out otherwise.
· FTL's savefile will be created at /my documents/my games, or something to that effect. It will most probably NOT be on the same folder as the game, and you will probably have to create the folder by hand or execute the game once for it to appear.
· If you bought the Steam or GoG version... well, I don't think you'll be able to do it unless you get your hands on an .exe installer.
Please someone try it out and tells me how it worked for ya. I can at least guarrantee this worked on my office's computer by downloading everything on site, but there shouldn't be a problem by running it from a USB stick. If not, try copying the files into the hard disk.
