LONCHIVAR CAPTIAN'S LOG STARDATE 2-19-13
Another close one!
After having success with the BATMAN single ship crew member challenge I figured I would try to draw inspiration from a cast and crew that tackle the impossible on a day to day real time basis.
So for "lucky" run number 24 I decided to enlist Jack Bauer, Tony Almeda and Chloe Obrien to join me in the hunt for the VIP Crystal Crew member.
If anyone could that crystal guy to talk and tell me where his ship was it would be Jack Bauer.
Apparently the Crystal people do not have much sensation in their kneecaps and shooting him there repeatedly proved to be worthless.
Once again no Rock Homeworlds!

CAPTAINS LOG - STARDATE 2-20-13
I had another bright idea.
Why not unite Earth's greatest hero and use some Zoltan technology to put their knowhow and tenacity into Rockmen bodies?
So I set out today on run 25 of my Crystal Quest with myself, Jack Bauer, Batman and Chuck Norris in the LEGACY 25.
Once again I seem to have a habit of finding the pod, cracking it open, and having no Rock Homeworld to be seen.
I was wondering that if having Chuck Norris on my ship would have the rebels immediately surrender and then I would have a new accomplishment to speak about... beating the game in less than 5 seconds.
No dice there either!

LONG RANGE SCANNER PURCHASES - 5
CRYSTAL CREWMEMBERS FREED - 4
ROCKHOMEWORLDS DISCOVERED - 0

Hmmm... How many people out there DO have the Crystal ship?
Do you think it is 5 percent of all FTL players? 10 percent? 1 percent?
That would be an interesting statistic to know!
Good hunting Captains!

CAPTAIN'S LOG STARDATE 2-21-13
My goodness.
Sometimes after you get to the second sector you get a starmap that is so terrible you cannot turn away from it. It was a trainwreck today.
Seeing as I am trying to only make one attempt at the coveted Crystal Cruiser per gaming session I looked at this map and decided that it was "possible" for success. It was a winning the lottery type statistic but I figured I would give it a go.
The first two choices I had on my possible sector 2 were both RED REBEL CONROLLED SECTORS.
After that?
A sea of GREEN DOTS.
At the very end in SECTOR 7 was one RED dot. And it was POSSIBLE it was the ROCK HOMEWORLD.
How many RED dots are there???
REBEL CONTROLLED SECTOR
MANTIS CONTROLLED SECTOR
PIRATE CONRTROLLED SECTOR
ROCK CONTROLLED SECTOR
MANTIS HOMEWORLDS
ROCK HOMEWORLDS
That makes SIX.
So my logic is that any RED DOT on the map has a 1 in 6 chance of being the needle in the haystack known as the ROCK HOMEWORLD.
Well... I never got to that dot.
The path of GREEN dots that I followed was...
SECTOR 3 ZOLTAN CONTROLLED SECTOR
SECTOR 4 ZOLTAN HOMEWORLDS
SECTOR 5 ZOLTAN CONTROLLED SECTOR
SECTOR 6 ZOLTAN CONTROLLED SECTOR
My crew members must have found nearly HALF A DOZEN research stations and ate so many cookies after the research the made Santa Claus jealous.
What are the odds of having 4 Zoltans in a row?
Don't know. It has to be pretty low.
But there is nearly a 100 percent chance I will try this again tomorrow!
I love this game.

LONCHIVAR CAPTAIN'S LOG STARDATE 2-22-13
I have gotten to the point where I can play a game of FTL seeking the Crystal Ship on autopilot and thought that it might be good to have some other entertainment that might be inspiring going on in the background.
Apparently if you play classical music in your greenhouse you will have large vegetables due to the plants being inspired.
I am wondering what is going to give me the edge to have a bountiful harvest of damaged stasis pods and a good crop of Crystal crew members.
I work with troubled kids and one of the movies I always pop in the DVD player for them to watch is a story called Nacho Libre. Someday great college professors are going to stand in front of eager minds and explain how this story is the Shakespeare of the 21st century.
Or not.
But anyway.
Nacho Libre is simple story about a magic piece of toast and amatuer wrestler that has no luck in anythign he does. Again and again and again he gets dirt kicked in the his fast and tastes defeat. He loses EVERY match he ever enters.
Except one.
In the end?
He FINALLY wins. He finally wins the most important match of his life.
It is a good story about sticking to it... and believing in yourself. For some reason I never get tired of seeing how happy Nacho is at the end of that movie. And even though the movie is cheesy as hell, the kids always get a kick out of it too.
My guess is at about CRYSTAL SHIP RUN 392 I am going to snap, retreat to the desert and eat a little cactus and build a shelter of sticks and leave the cruel world of the cold, cold space and countless defeats behind.
But I too will be back!
And I too will have my glory day in the hot sun.
There are a lot of people that think that FTL is the hardest game out there. And they may be right!
But here is to every guy out there that sticks it out and finally blows up Ramses the the Rebel Flagship.
I know that a lot of people that play FTL have a Nacho moment when tasting that victory.
I know I will have another one when I finally bring that ship home.
That is the good stuff, Captians!
Good hunting out there!

CAPTAINS LOG - STARDATE 2-23-13
In order to try to have a bit more of a challenge around the galaxy on my 28th Crystal Run I tried to do the notorious NO SHIELD CHALLENGE.
That is where you take one of the two STEALTH fighters on a mission across the stars and never purchase the shields upgrade.
As far as I know nobody has defeated the flagship in this challenge... and I spent a good bit of time looking on the internet for such a victory.
Even though I love the soundtrack to this game I decided to play a different background music on this mission.
Once again I found the Stasis pod... and once again I found the way to get that pod open... and once again the Rock Homeworld was nowhere to be found.
But I still had the challenge of facing the Flagship.
It was fight I will never forget.

CAPTAIN'S LOG - STARDATE 2-25-13
I had an uneventful run yesterday in the depths of space in search of the Crystal ship and the final frontier of the SECRET SECTOR.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ofG1F49N3c
I did get a LONG RANGE SCANNER and a STASIS POD though. I have been finding that pod quite often as of late!
Sometimes you need to take a break from flying in a spaceship and get your bearings and inspiration by flying in another spaceship.
I busted out the giant legos today and added another comparment on the SS Little Red Wagon. A lot of adventures go on in that spaceship and the most fun by far is hurling lego asteroids at the plucky little ship and seeing if the hull holds.
It is always quite a bit of fun and never seems to get olde for a favourite little 3 year olde crewmember of mine.
Something tells me that if this series ends up going to Crystal Ship Run 100 or even 1000 I will still have a smile on my face after my mission ends each and every time.
Thirty tries and I have encountered ZERO Rock Homeworlds.
I do not need a degree in math to know the odds of that are pretty low!
One of these missions though I am going to choose the right crew and they will take me to where no member of the LEGACY has gone before.
In the meantime? I will just remember how important it is to PLAY each and every day. I think a certain lego ship might need to be boarded by a squid and a starfish.
Keep playing Captains. It keeps you young inside and out.

I have no idea how you're this unlucky, I almost always hit the rock homeworlds at some point. (Mostly for rock plating if I have an empty slot.

LONCHIVAR CAPTAIN'S LOG STARDATE 2-28-13
Sometimes you get what you wish for!
For the first time I have seen the coveted ROCK HOMEWORLDS. Not only once... but TWICE.
Runs 32 and 33 of my quest for Crystal netted me a LONG RANGE SCANNER, A STASIS POD, and the ROCK HOMEWORLDS. And both runs had a great opportunity to find the ZOLTAN REASEACH CENTER/COOKIE FACTORY in both runs.
Sadly... no cookies or research for the rockmen of the LEGACY 32 and 33.
Seeing as I have been playing the SHIVAN almost every game in this quest the Rockmen aboard my ships were just glad to see that their home planet still existed.
Now here is a question to ask other Captains out there. In my hundreds of games I have never seen a map that contained TWO homeworlds of the same race. Can anyone out give testimony to the contrary?
My guess is you see a homeworld on the map you won't see another one.
Anyway! Hope is rekindled in the bellies of the Rockmen. February is just not my month... but we will March on and hopefully by the end of next month I will be able to complete my fleet and continue my adventures.
