New idea for ftl gameplay

Post by goldflow »

how about at the end of a game you can revisit the old sectors of space without having to be chased by rebels and build the best ship you can against scaling enemies?

People suggest all these ideas all the time because they don't want their current game to end, the boss fight is too cheesy or they spilled coffee on their keyboard.

It's not possible to implement such a feature into the game (and even then, why go back to the old sectors? I'd rather go forward into the unknown). You build a ship, build it the best you can in a limited amount of time and get to the big boss fight at the end and win or lose.

Enemies in sector 8 (including the elite Rebel fighters in the fleet beacons) are already about as scaled as they're going to get and remain fair to fight for all ships. Pirate ships in sectors 7 and 8 can be really mean - cloaking, lots of ion weaponry, lots of lasers, attack drones, etc.

If enemies were to break the current cap of 10 weapons power, you'd see a lot more effective 3 and 4 power weapons like big missiles, Ion Blast IIs, Halberd Beams, Flak IIs, etc. It would all have to come to a head at some point - and I think the current point is as good a point as any.

I think the final boss pretty much serves as a "final exam" and makes sure your ship can handle all aspects of ship combat - and if you pass, you win the game and get to finish the plot.

Your crew has to retire and go home to their families at some point, right? :)

Goldflow, maybe have a look at CE Infinite. Among many, many amazing things it lets you keep going basically forever.
