Campaign mode?

Post by Deadboss »

Hello everybody,

I am wondering if there is a RPG/campaign type of mod, couldn't really find what I was looking for in the master mod list. I love the fast-paced "do or die" type of gameplay style that vanilla FTL offers, but I would enjoy a slower paced game where your actions have longer lasting power. Do any exist?

I am looking for something along the lines of:

-Slower start. I want to start with the worst ship available (like a 5 room automated drone), being able to slowly upgrade and buy new ships and weaponry as I progress through the game.
-No rush/impending doom. I am somewhat flexible with this, but being able to freely do my own thing without a wave of rebels on my ass all the time would be great. Maybe like a 150 turn doomsday or something would be acceptable to have as a choice.
-Choices. Maybe I join the rebels to defeat the federation. Maybe I join the mantis army to take over the engi homeworlds. Crazy shit like this :D
-Better character progression. Having your characters level up and allowing you to allocate the points, as opposed to the auto-level system, would be more fitting to the RPG type gameplay. Maybe global upgrades as opposed to individual.
-And on that note... personal gear. Maybe you equip your engi with a cutting torch to increase repair rate by 10%, etc. etc.
-Crafting system. Nuff' said...?
-Planetary battle. Being able to build a base and outfit it. I am picturing something like x-com style base management, simple yet awesome. Could go anywhere though to be honest.

At this point I am pretty much just throwing ideas out there, I highly doubt that all of these ideas are implemented in mods. If there is anything similar to try out please let me know. If not, someone should get busy! ;)

you will need to wait till FTL: Overdrive is out and even then I don't think all of your wishes will come true.

Technically the current game is a "Campaign" mode technically or a "Story mode".
It isn't an MMO obviously, it isn't a "Free mission" "arcade mode" where you can load up a battle and do what ever.
etc.

I think your best hopes should be in...
"Foundation of the Federation" in terms of ships, you can play as the Engi or Federation scout. The mod is dead.
"FTL: Infinite space", this makes the game have no ending and continues.
"FTL: Captains Edition" adds more flavour and more ships and enemy layouts and stuff, great mod.
"FTL: Into Darkness" makes you play 1 specific ship and 'build it' through options and stuff in the start.

The last 3 mentioned are not compatible with each other. FotF can work on Infinite space and Captains edition.
R4V3-0N, a dreamer.

I'm writing an FTL Campaign, which takes place 2 years after the events in Vanilla FTL.

The first arc's ships are playable; you can find the link in my siggy. Debugging the events (or actual storyline mod) has taken 3 weeks longer than expected though

There are other total conversion campigns, such as Sonata, but most of them are not vanilla campaigns; i.e. they convert it to Endless Space storyline or something.

More importantly, many of these mods will not work with FTL 1.03.3, you'll need to downgrade to 1.03.1.

I wouldn't call my own campaign canon, per se, but it does take the original events in FTL as canon and further explains and refines the existing FTL lore.

Cheers and happy hunting!
