Greetings.
After getting very far in the game (i seem to be able to beat the game on normal most of the time, not dying but only restarting if i get seriously screwed at start) i have gathered a list of ideas i think would be simple to implement, yet improve gaming experience very much, add depth (at little to no programming cost) etc etc.
However, i see a lot of "suggestion" topics on this forum, even several topics on one idea (like, idea to have away party missions on planets/bases/abandoned ships where you have a miniquest to solve etc), and it seems that they are not going anywhere.
I am sure game authors read this forum now and then, so if you could, please answer (or if someone knows if they answered somewhere already, please point me to the answer).
Do you really care? Do you listen? Do you plan to actively enhance FTL with features that are suggested by community (kinda like other roguelikes progress, like DoomRL, where you can even offer payment in order to have your feature implemented), or even open game to modding by community (release mod tools, add some way of scripting like lua, etc), or do you only have plans to finish the game (fixing all remaining bugs) and be done with it, start doing usual flak dlc, or start creating a stand-alone sequel/prequel?
Is there any point in suggestions? Do authors listen?

i think you'd have greater success for any dev feedback on your suggestions at getsatisfaction.com/ftl

I'm pretty sure the modders are listening.

Most of these ideas (just like the one above) are costly to implement, benefit only particular players (playstyles) and/or introduce more problems than they solve.Hissatsu wrote:However, i see a lot of "suggestion" topics on this forum, even several topics on one idea (like, idea to have away party missions on planets/bases/abandoned ships where you have a miniquest to solve etc), and it seems that they are not going anywhere.
It might give wrong impression of authors not caring, however in most cases player ideas are just not viable.

Currently the devs are busy fixing bugs and handling all the support requests that come with the success of the game launch. I'm sure they will want to address the many suggestions that have been given on the forum, but each one requires thoughtful consideration and carefully worded answers, which takes time too.Hissatsu wrote:I am sure game authors read this forum now and then, so if you could, please answer (or if someone knows if they answered somewhere already, please point me to the answer).
Meanwhile, I think it would be more constructive to try to consolidate suggestion threads, so that players who have similar ideas can think together on a common proposal, rather than having dozens of independent suggestion threads, each containing several separate ideas. (Not to say there aren't good suggestion threads already, but I have noticed many players come and dump all their ideas at once.)

Yeah, too bad a lot of people make suggestions that are well outside the scope of the engine.Baby Fark McGee-zax wrote:I'm pretty sure the modders are listening.

It would be nice to have a couple more subforums.
One for mods and one for suggestions.
Kind of keep the noise down here, and there.

Seeing as how every thread turns into a suggestion thread with the same suggestions over and over I highly doubt it.licker wrote:Kind of keep the noise down here, and there.
Also this same problem is why the devs CAN'T respond to every suggestion. Doesn't mean they aren't listening.

Re: Is there any point in suggestions? Do authors listen?
Oh no, of course i didnt mean to say "why devs are not listening" and i understand that game is very new. I was just asking whether or not there is a point in offering suggestions, because i had experience with both games that authors do like to listen and actually care, and games where there are countless good suggestions but game author takes the game where he wants it to go, often ignoring most of them, except single very obvious ones.
PS: Forums for mods and suggestions are great idea, but again, is there someone who watches the forums and will make such subforums?...
