The Bosun or Boatswain is responsible for the ship's hull. So Morgan would be the guy who can do hull repairs and probably be a vital person to have on an ageing ship like the Robin or the Pelican... not so much a high-tech ship from the future but one can manage."
That's actually really interesting

While Jake was resting from an extremely stressful day, Lux radioed him from the Pelican, explaining that the training would take quite a while, relating it to PT at the Academy. "Oh jeez, the wall. I LOVED the wall. It was probably my favorite PT activity. Well, that and basketball. I also loved basketball. Especially Zero-G basketball!"

For once in the mission, Jake was grinning.
Bren commed Jake, "So Boss, whats our plan, my map is back online and I want to know what the next sector location we should head too next." Bren said leaning in his seat back a bit
Not so fast! We still have many more adventures!  The Abandoned Sector(s) are still far away, which makes sense. Why would the creepy unexplored sectors be so close to Federation homeworlds?

"We have two sector options. One is a sprawling semi-charted nebula. It's where this ship was originally found. The other is Mantis controlled, which was taken by the Mantis during the war." Jake said to Bren, and the rest of the fleet. "What do you guys think? Opinions?"

"How about dealing with the black hole, we are going to our deaths anyway, that might be quicker" he joked, "I'll take the mantis one, at least they are direct when trying to kill you" he suggested looking up the beacon routes nearby to get to the Sector Warp Beacon

"That explains why you'd leave the simulator at times..." Lux laughed "You were off playing basketball."
She looked over at the map Eden had brought up. "You've travelled this sector a lot haven't you? Is there anything of interest?" Lux asked her.
Several icons appeared on the screen, including distress signals, several warning triangles and a few hazard zones including a solar flare and a pulsar near the exit beacon.
"I may have logged a few things of interest in my operations." Eden said "And a few binary star systems, a world inhabited by feudal-age tyrants and I almost ran into a Rebel forward scout here... probably looking for Federation vessels."
She shrugged at the choices further ahead "I haven't got much in the way of maps for the other sectors."
Lux remarked "But I'm guessing you'd want the Mantis sector for resupply?"
Eden shook her head "Charlie was the only one who understood the nature of The Gift very well. To the others, we're a bunch of foolish meatsacks. So I think the nebula is our best option. Pirates like me hide out in those sectors, looking for their prey."

I was thinking that the Pelican is larger than most standard FTL-ships but has a crew count similar to that of an FTL ship (8-10)
Which then raises another question: What do you think the Rebel ships are? Old Federation craft, repurposed and repainted? Or are they newly-built craft and some have just fallen into pirate hands?

Bren nodded his head, "Alright then, guess we are gonna be flying blind in the nebula" he said sighing a bit

(I think a combination of old Federation plans, some civie ships repurposed and maybe some of their own original designs)

"Nebula it is, then!" Jake exclaimed.

Repairs were finished. Bosun announced he'd patchd up the hull to the best of his ability. They were well into the Yellow Zone on the Hull Meter, which didn't boad well. Other than that, everything was ship-shape.

They relayed coordinates, and Jake ordered everyone to positions. For whatever reason, Kyrie and WOL did not move. "Kyrie and WOL, report," Jake said into the comms

Mantis? Eden said she would prefer the nebula.
Uncharted nebulae can also mean we can make up even more crazy stuff for events. Whereas the Mantis sector is probably full of boarding parties and shouts of "Foolish meatsacks!"

"Don't Slugs also hang out in nebulae?" Lux asked.
Eden nodded "They rely on their telepathic abilities more than anything else. They also go down very easily once caught."

"Um... Captain you may want to come down here. WOL seems to have forgotten how to speak. And who he is apparently. I think he's got amnesia or something." Kyrie motioned to WOL again. "You are WOL..." She nodded slowly. "WOL."

Jake gave a confused look, furoing his brow.
"Go to the medbay, I'll meet you there," Jake said, getting up and proceeding to the medbay.

Jake met Kyrie and WOL in the Medbay. For an Engi, WOL didn't look so good. There were cracks and dents in his metallic form. "WOL? You OK?" Jake asked. WOL didn't answer.

"His memory cards must've been damaged from the gravity of the Black Hole," Jake theorized. "That's not good..."

Suddenly, Sarah appeared. "That's what I thought. There are copies of Engi basic data and Language Packs in the storage bay. We can re-install those into WOL, and hopefully communicate better." She disappeared, and a few minutes later came walking in (she was holding a solid object, so she had to walk back) holding an Engi data disk. Sarah slowly approached WOL, holding the disk.

Sarah spoke to WOL gently, in a soft, sweet voice. "This contains basic Engi info that all Engis are born with, as well as an English Language Pack. It will allow you to communicate with us. Can you install it?"

"WOL?" Thought the engi. "Is that who I am?" "WOL..." He mused to himself. Suddenly, another human came into the room. This human was different from the other, it exchanged some words with the other, and beckoned the engi to follow. The engi complied with the human's orders, and followed it into the medbay.

The human inspected the engi. Apparently, he was damaged during an incident with a black hole? He tried to think back, but again, found no answers. Suddenly, another being appeared in the room. It looked similar to a human, but no life could be detected in it.

It spoke to the engi in a soft tone, as a mother would to a child. He was given a small metallic disc. He was then instructed to assimilate it within himself. The engi obliged, he wanted answers more than anything.
