Engi Gunship

I played this game on easy, since I can't beat this game on normal at all. AE was also off, because I don;t like the new content much, it's a bit much for me to handle with Hacking taking down my shields in the middle of nowhere.

So I used Engi Cruiser A, overall it's supposed to be a pretty easy ship to beat the Flagship with. However, my play style is extremely anti-drone, as I prefer to power through shields with lasers and missiles. So I've had trouble with the Engi ships before.

Anyway, by the end of sector 1 I already had 2 shield barriers and engines lv 3, as well as a random Hull Repair Drone given to me in a random event. Not half bad. I get full shields by sector 5 and lv 5 engines soon after. I found a BL3 midway through Sector 5 and spend my massive scrap hoard upgrading weapons to equip it and the Ion at the same time. I powered through most encounters with ease. By this time I had full crew, so this was turning out to be a very good run. But then I ran out of fuel in the beginning of Sector 6. Ripoff Slugman comes along, and since I can't afford his ridiculous prices, he pays by getting demolished by the BL3 and Ion. Those two weapons synergize very well I find, the Ion can take down 3 layers of shields just in time for the BL3 to come in and shred the enemy weapons, even if the Ion misses a few times.

Near the end of Sector 6 I find another BL3. I planned to sell it but then thought, "Keep the BL3s and upgrade the weapons to max. Engi Gunship!" I found a Defense Drone 1 around this time too.

Flagship encounter:

Stage 1:
Max engines, max shields, and the defense drone help me deal with the missiles until my 2 BL3s come online and bring the guy manning missiles down to blinking red health. One more volley finishes him off and then I turn my attention to the shield compartment. Two Rebels die inside trying to fix their shields when 10 lasers come crashing through.
Damage Taken: 0
Crew Damage Taken: 0

Stage 2:
Defense drone deals with the boarding drones except for one time. It gets through but luckily it lands in the medbay and my Mantis-Human security team tears it to shreds. All of the two volleys of missiles either miss or are shot down by my defense drone.
Damage Taken: 0
Crew Damage Taken: Human down to low yellow, Mantis down to half health. Nothing a medbay can't solve.

Stage 3:
The Super Shield Proves to be very annoying this round. Luckily the first missile volley misses entirely or is shot down, but 1 missile from the second volley makes it through. 1 more missile from the 3rd volley and the 4th misses entirely before the missile system is destroyed. The flagship got through all of 2 power surges before it exploded. And the boarders? 1 set, the rebel pilot and some other random guy. Killed in a flash with my Mantis and human.
Damage Taken: 2
Crew Damage Taken: Human and mantis both 2/3 health.

Overall a very interesting run. Interesting because it's an Engi ship and drones were not too crucial to this layout during the flagship battle, and I didn't make use of the Ion at all with the flagship. Just pure firepower.
