Wazzup y’all, it’s Omega King, Fireclaw, and Styles again.
Due to some very unfortunate events surrounding the previous GM (Hanzz), the Rise of the Empire RP was shut down. However, we refuse to submit to the FTL RP’s curse.
Our new RP is set at an undetermined time after the Federation has resumed control of the galaxy. Outside of the Federation’s control, however, some very strange and unsettling things are going down. Three warring space stations are causing a massive disruption in deep space. It’s a wonder that the Federation hasn’t yet done something to stop them...
This RP will be played out in a turn-based manner (sped along by the GM so we don’t have to sit through boring attack rolls) over skype chat. It will begin in June of 2016 (so the majority of RPers will hopefully be out of school). Please don’t sign up if you don’t intend to stay, as we’ll need quite a few (9+) players to begin.
Players will be able to choose between 3 space stations to be a member of. The RP will not start until each station has at least 3 players. Sessions will meet in smaller groups for a single station, or large inter-station groups. We’ll try to get in at least a couple sessions a week, so please try to be available.
We’re gonna try as hard is we can to get this on the road. Let’s do this.
GMs out.
Years after the rebels have been annihilated by Galactic Federation, their hegemony extends across the galaxy. Only small pockets of space still run on autocratic governments, apart from the Federation’s reach.
One of these autocracies is the Holy Empire of Arcpyre, a monoculture encompassing the planet Fyon.
Within the Holy Empire, a small group of scientists has been researching genetic manipulation. Despite being denounced again and again by the Church of Orion (the religious authority of the Holy Empire), they have continued their research. When they reach a spectacular breakthrough in inserting and activating latent genes, the scientists realize that the military power of the Empire is nothing compared to their newfound abilities ability.
Armed with knowledge and biological weaponry, the scientists (now calling themselves Darwin’s Battalion) attempt a coup on the empire. Despite their power, they completely underestimated the Empire’s weaponry. As the battle continues, the Empire begins to prevail due to their superior numbers. Terrified, Darwin’s Battalion flees to the stars. The Church of Orion declares holy war against these blasphemers, and sends their ships into pursuit. Only the Imperial Citadel is left on a planet scorched and blasted by nuclear weaponry and filled with deadly and mutated organisms created by biological fallout. Unable to survive on that husk of a planet, the Emperor activated a long-forgotten project that lifted the entire Citadel into deep space, following the two previously launched factions with a vengeance.
These three sects from the same home planet have battled for decades, creating massive space station bases to facilitate their bloody conflict. As each militant station becomes stronger and stronger, they begin to attract the attention of the Galactic Federation. This disruption under their rule isn’t looking good on their governance. They might need to… silence this infinite war.
You will choose one of these three stations to be a member of in FTL: Infinite War.
Darwin’s Battalion began as a group of genetic researchers questing for power. Led by renowned genetic scientist Professor Ykktrakillarst, when they discovered a system for implanting and activating latent genes at the touch of a button they decided to throw a coup. Their numbers were so small that they failed out of sheer lack of manpower, so they were forced to flee to the stars.
As their ragtag group of ships sought to find a station or hospitable planet, they came across a migrating pack of Arcturan Star Devourers. Professor Ykktrakillarst (known to other scientists as being “fuckin’ crazy”) gave the order to land on the back of a devourer. Using the technology his team had discovered, he implanted a gene sequence in the devourer that allowed it to respond to his telepathic influences. With the devourer’s own natural regenerative power and some genetic manipulation by Darwin’s Battalion, the devourer (affectionately called the Finch) created a veritable city on its back, allowing the researchers to continue their flight through the stars atop it.
Fellow scientists agreeing with the Battalion’s view on genetic manipulation and civilians impressed by how badass a STAR DEVOURER CITY was began to join, and Darwin’s Battalion grew into a legion. Though it is still the smallest of the three stations, it still packs a hell of a punch.
Within Darwin’s Battalion seems to be nothing more than anarchy, but in reality it is perfectly arranged. Every resident of the Finch is part of the vast hierarchical web.
War is synonymous with research in Darwin’s Battalion, as the battlefield is a testing ground for new chemical and biological weapons. The Battalion excels at boarding and hand-to-hand combat, relying on the extermination of crew rather than the destruction of the enemy vessel.
The Battalion is mainly composed of Slugs, Mantis, and a few human, mostly just species that have stayed with their biological roots. DNA is God in the Battalion, and they have harnessed that God and bent Him to their will.
The Imperial Empire was the main body of the Holy Empire of Arcpyre. They follow the religion of the Imperial Codum, and disagreed with the views of the Church of Orion, though they tolerated them. The Supreme Commander of the citadel, the holy city of the Empire, was second in command of the entire empire. But when Darwin’s Battalion rebelled, and the Empire was nearly destroyed, with the Emperor dead, they became the true leader of the empire. Gathering all the remaining weapons of the Empire, the council met in the Imperial Citadel.
They devised a plan to lift the entire Citadel into space, allowing them to escape their now-dying world. This plan went ahead, and the Imperial Citadel was flung free from Fyon. Hungry for revenge against Darwin’s Battalion, they began to chase them. After years of travel, they found them, only to be stopped from defeating them at the last second, by the Church of Orion.
The Church wished to destroy Darwin’s Battalion as well, but they had long resented each other, and both decided that they were getting in each other’s way. The ensuing fight allowed Darwin’s Battalion to escape, and caused heavy losses to both the Church of Orion, and the Imperial Citadel. The Imperial Citadel left, and now is locked in the battle between the other 2 stations. But, maybe they shall eventually rule everything once more…
The Imperial Citadel is ruled by Supreme Commander Xavier, Emperor of Arcpyre. Directly below him are the council of 12, a ruling body who control most of the Citadel’s day to day actions. The Imperial Army is large, and well armed, though they lack the augmentations of the other two factions. Mechs are widely used by the Imperial Empire, and the Imperial Fleet is very well-armed, with all kinds of powerful weaponry.
Uniquely, the Imperial Citadel has a very large amount of Civilians, due to its beginnings as a normal city. Though able to fight, they largely live out normal lives, deep within the massive station. All races are represented, though it has a mostly human population.
The Church of Orion started off as a small-scale cult within the Holy Empire, set up by a group of AIs wanting people to maintain their gardens.
After many generations of AIs and enhancements, the cult became a full religion based around gardens and flowers, lead by the founder, Mother Meyneth.
Meyneth loved her gardens and wanted them protected from the unclean and unholy blasphemers who wanted to destroy them.
Being an AI, she naturally turned to creating machines to do the task for her.Because machines were infallible and the most holy of holies, being closest to Meyneth and able to be controlled by her.
The Church of Orion's space station is called Mechonis. It's a massive platform designed to crack open planets and then consume the rock and debris with a swarm of nanoclouds that break them up into useable materials. The entire station is mostly dedicated to maintaining and running a huge cluster of supercomputers but 1% of the space is used by the cybernetically-enhanced inhabitants, including a massive temple complex spanning several kilometres that allows worshippers to praise and worship their leader, Mother Meyneth.
Another 1% of the station is dedicated to a massive garden made up of both organic and artificial plants. This is in tribute to their leader’s heritage as a gardening AI.
In battle, the Church maintains supremacy through the use of robot soldiers, drones and cyborgs. Naturally, Engies are drawn towards the Church as well as some Zoltan who appreciate the gardens and Slugs who also utilise heavy cybernetic enhancements in some pirate groups.
Rockmen on the other hand tend to shy away from the Church due to the religious beliefs not coinciding with Rock religion.
Mantis don’t care about the gardens either, nor do they wish to fight a bunch of machines that don’t bleed and provide no sustenance.
There are rumours of the Church creating synthetic bodies to be used as infiltrators throughout the galaxy. Some say this is rather hypocritical of the Church considering their stance on biological augmentation but no one has the courage to bring it up to Mother Meyneth.
