I always thought that reaching 0% oxygen was basically endgame, but I discovered a way to pull back from the brink.
The secret is your med-bay. A level 1 med bay will keep crew members from losing further health in 0% oxygen, but they won't heal. A level 2 med bay will actually heal them.
So when you reach 0% oxygen, get your crew to full health first in the med bay and then send them to repair the 02 system, then bring them back to the med bay if you can while the air replenishes.
Depending on distance between the med bay and 02 system it may or may not be a suicide mission. With multiple crew you might be able to increase survivability by rotating crew before they get too weak to return to the med bay, without ever pausing the repair and forcing you to restart.

Interesting and good to know. This would be one case where heal bombs would be very nice to have as well I imagine. You could get by with a lvl 1 bay then and just bomb the medbay to heal your guys.

Important to know: If all people leave a room, repairs get lost. However, if there is just one person remaining, they carry over. So be careful when switching them out of the O2 room, at least one needs to be present at all times.

The geniuses who designed my rock ship have put the O2 room and Healing room at the opposite sides of the ship. Yeah, died a few times by seeing my oxygen get kicked in the nuts.
Another hint would be to upgrade your O2 room. Then when it gets hit, it will still be running. If you have one, a repair drone can also save the day.

I am not a fan of upgrading O2. Weapons that do more then one damage are too common and going lvl 3 on it costs a lot for little gain. If at all possible I have a engi do all my repairs and I station the guy in the O2 room when he has nothing else to do.

I guess most medical facilities have tanked oxygen.
I'd like to see Vacc suits added - a small, personal oxygen supply at a cost in mobility. Trashed if you take a certain amount of damage.
Not trivial to implement though.

Thats funny, kirks, I just had my 2 last crewmembers stuck in the medbay at 0% oxygen and was ready for the game over, but then I realised I got enough scrap from the fight to upgrade the medbay, it saved the ship!
Healing burst would also help in such a situation.

That's actually how I discovered it also.
I was in the Mantis A ship, and had just barely won a battle by sending a boarding party over. Pretty much every single system was destroyed, except the med bay and the teleporter.
I had a human crew member and a mantis in the med bay, stuck at under 20 health (the human was at 8hp!). Then I had two other mantis on the enemy ship, both also very injured. I could teleport them back, but the teleporter room had no oxygen and they'd pretty much instantly die.
So I upgraded the med bay with the scrap I had won, healed both the human and mantis to full, and sent them to fix the 02 unit and retreat to the med bay before they died. Then when the ship filled up with air I teleported the other two mantises back.
Fortunately the 02 unit is close to the medbay on the Mantis A ship. But even then I almost wasn't able to pull it off. It would have been easier if my engy crew member had still been alive, but they had died during the battle on a failed suicide mission to repair the 02 unit by themselves.
Re: Coming Back From 0% Oxygen
At 25 for the O2 and 35 for the medbay, I find it reasonably cheap and effective to have a second, unused level in each at least by midgame, with power being used elsewhere. When I need it, I've never not been able to steal power from some other system to pump up the medbay, or use the extra bar in 02 to pull rapidly oxygenate the ship. Well worth 60 scrap in each if you're not keeping extra power in them. Heck, on some ships I run without lvl 1 medbay power when I've got everything in weapons.
(as an added bonus, this feels like true sci-fi geekery to me, re-routing power to systems as needed)

Not to mention that the extra unused level still acts like armor, absorbing 1 point of damage that would otherwise go to your hull. And that many blue options require upgraded systems of one kind or another.
But like most things in FTL it's situational. In one playthrough an upgraded 02 or medbay might save your ship, in another you might die because you didn't have enough scrap for other systems you ended up needing more.
