Here's a silly situation: It's fairly common to get an event with a malfunctioning defense system, where you get to shoot at it, leave, or repair it with blue options. (Cloak, engi, ion weapon.) The silly part? If you have zero weapons, not even any in storage, you can still choose the option to "fire a few volleys at it" to destroy it. I kinda wish this event checked for zero weapons, but instead of disabling that option, it should just change the flavour-text. Something like "Your crew take turns launching space garbage out of the garbage ports, seeing who can hit the system most accurately. Eventually, you score a lucky shot, taking the system down." :P

As for a proper "tip/trick": The slug B ship is usually pretty dangerous, since you don't start with a med-bay, and missiles for your heal-bomb are expensive. With the Advanced Edition, you can get the Explosive Replicator augmentation, to halve the number of bombs you use up, or you can get the Reconstructive Teleport augmentation to heal your dudes by boarding/fleeing the enemy ships. It also basically frees you up, to not buy a med-bay/clone-bay. I know most people would probably think this is stupid, but I like it, because it gives me an extra system slot to play with, for hacking or mind control. :)

I totally agree. I've not played it enough but the Slug B could be the big winner in AE. At the very least it's in the running for Most Improved.

Lvl 3 oxygen can negate a hullbreach. If you open a door adjacent to a hullbreach you take no suffocation damage while repairing.
In nebula sectors consider upgrading sensors to 2. Some nebula events can be solved with a slug crewmember, some with long range scanners, but both types can always be solved with upgraded sensors(except for 1 which can be solved by long range scanners or a teleporter).

there is an event that gives a blue option if you have level 2 oxygen. in the slug home nebula, theres a scripted event where a slug ship hacks your oxygen, if you have level 2 you get a blue option to "punp extra power to the system" and regain limited use of it (level 1)

edit : sorry this has already been said earlier, should learn to read deeper before responding to a post, did not realize this thread was 17 pages long...

Did you know that when an enemy hacking drone is about to land on a system, you can pause the game and remove all power from that system? Doing so will allow you to reallocate that power - otherwise the power pumped into the hacked system will useless until the hacking drone has to recharge. Note that you can freely reallocate the power when the hacking drone is recharging.

Did you know the following tricks with mind control?

- If you mind control someone repairing a system, they will stop repairing. This is often far more helpful than mind controlling someone who is manning a station.

- If you use mind control on a room with two guys in it, they will usually fight each other. This is much better than mind controlling a lone guy, who will usually just run off and start shooting a random system by himself for mediocre damage. Moreover, more enemy crew may stop what they were doing and join the fight - so shot into that room and kill 2-3 guys at once!

- Mind controlling the pilot will drop the ship evasion to 0 if no one else is in the room. You can time it right and have all your shots land. It won't last very long however, as another crew member will usually be sent there immediately.

Did you know that hacking a station eliminates the ability to man it, so long as the drone has 1 unit of power even if its charging? So dropping a hacking drone on the cockpit takes 5% evade from the enemy and locks those doors, making it difficult for the pilot to respond to, say, a fire in the shield room.

Did you know that Ioning a system eliminates the ability to man it, even if the system is partially functional? So an Ioned shield recharges slower (If it was manned to begin with) while Ioned weapons lose rate of fire (The latter is useful if you can get an Ion Blast through the Flagship shield, or any time you're fighting a missile heavy opponent).

Did you know that if you can reliably keep the enemy shields down, Fire Beam Drones inflict a lot more havoc a lot faster than a Fire Beam for only one more unit of power?

Did you know that you can mind control two enemy crew at once while spoofing their mind control of yours? Drop a Hacking Drone onto their Mind Control module, then wait for them to mind control one of your crew. Then activate your hacking drone to spoof their control and take over one crew, and use your mind control to take over the other! For best results, put three power into each system. Absolutely devastating against Zoltan and Mantis crews.

Did you know that a Backup Battery + Battery Charger augmentation provides +4 Power for 30 seconds with a ten second cooldown for the price of ~120 Scrap? This is more cost effective than buying four units of Reactor power at 35 each with a downside that's not relevant if you only use the Battery to power Hacking and Mind Control under normal conditions!

Did you know that with Hack 3 and a Breach Bomb, you can suffocate any ship? Hack 3 the Oxygen, then Breach Bomb the system the second the Hack wears off. The locked doors delay the repair crew, the breach accelerates the rate of O2 loss, the hack took them down to 40% O2 to begin with, and no Hull damage is inflicted allowing you to carry on normal suppressive operations against their weapons and shields! And when the repair the O2, Hack it again followed with a second Breach Bomb - and then accept the generous reward for taking the vessel intact, most likely including two more missiles to continue the Circle of Asphyxiation.

Did you know that ASB(Anti-Ship Battery) shots behave like 3 damage guaranteed Breach laser fire with 5 levels of Shield Piercing and no weapon room to target? How is this relevant? You can cloak-dodge these attacks, and their fire rate is slow enough for a level 1 Cloak to recharge in between attacks. Alternatively, since their fire rate is so slow, level 4 Engines charge the FTL just fast enough to escape before they get a chance to attack even once.

Did you know that if you completely destroy a system during cooldown, it won't have the cooldown when its repaired? Now I'm not saying its a good idea to Small Bomb your own teleporter, but...come on, at least think about it.

That's hilarious. In that case, it should actually cost a bit of scrap.

Did you know that if the flag ship hacks one of your critical system (Oxygen, Weapons, etc), you can simply Jump away?

Moreover, if you wait for the flag ship to come to you, you will start the battle with the Jump fully powered! That way, you can jump as soon as the hacking drone lands.

That part, I did not know!

Did you know that with the reduction from 4 power consumed to 3, the Defense Drone II offers nigh immunity to hacking drones, boarding drones, and missiles while weakening incoming laser/ion volleys at a more reasonable price than an extra shield? The Defense II's only weakness is stopping missiles backed by large numbers of projectiles, and when aside from Flagship Round III is that a factor?

Did you know that Lanius ships never carry Medbays? They only have Clone Bays, or nothing. It's a lot easier to kill a Lanius crew with mind control and weapons fire than it is to kill a Mantis crew with those methods as a result. They do almost always carry missiles, however, so be cautious.

Learned a bit of pretty obscure stuff today.

If you have a teleporter and it gets hacked, it will send all your boarders back to your ship during hacking surges. However, mind-controlled enemy crew is counted as "yours" and will be "returned" back to your ship as well. If by any chance your teleporter is hacked, you can use mind control at right moments to transport enemy crew to your ship where you will be able to kill them off. If the enemy ship doesn't have its own teleporter of course to get them back.

I entertained myself today with Lanius B by spending ~60% of my hull (and that with cloak :/) during flagship stage 1 slowly getting rebels to my ship and killing them till the point the only guys left were Ion weapon dude and beam weapon dude. I passed stages 2 and 3 without any damage whatsoever.

That is frickin' brilliant.
