if you are using the halberd beam or the glaive beam aim for the shields room first so you can give more damage to the other rooms you aim,as these bypass some shields (halberd 1 and glaive 2)

Tom2Toes wrote:I've read a couple of time in this thread that LV3 Oxygen will negate a hull breach but I've found that if you open all the internal doors a LV2 can be enough to cancel it out and allow you to repair the hole without your crew suffocating. Of course if theres more than one breach you need to isolate that room.
Of course even with LV1 its generally a good idea to open all the doors if you have any depleted rooms to quickly get the oxygen in to protect your crew. (once they've sealed the breach)
That's actually the definition of Lvl2 Oxygen that I use. L1: Air in the ship. L2: Can replenish a room with a breach if you open all the doors. L3: Can keep a closed-off room from losing O2 due to a breach.

When playing a Zoltan cruiser, you can upgrade your engines to level 4, and disable your shields while your Zoltan Shield is functional to juice them. This extends the lifespan of your Zoltan Shield considerably, and you can funnel back into your regular shields once it's down and hopefully have any weapons capable of penetrating them disabled once that happens.

Is this some kind of bug? As far as I know the only way you're supposed to be able to recharge a Zoltan Shield is by doing an FTL jump. Unless by 'upgrade' you mean transferring power out of shields and putting them into engines? Either way it's really hard to understand whatever you're trying to say there.

Yes. You disable your "normal" shield layers while the Zoltan shield is up, and use that power elsewhere.

He's saying putting power into the engines makes your Zoltan shield last longer because you will dodge more shots on average.

It doesn't regenerate your shield, it makes the enemy miss more often thereby keeping your shield active. If you've got one zoltan shield point left when the enemy fires a 4-damage missile at you, you don't need to cloak or worry. If their Burst laser took your zoltan shield down though due to your dodge being too low, that missile's gonna hurt.
Obviously during that battle it'd be best if you had all the power to power all your systems, but in the game you don't always have that luxury. Maybe you really want to get that weapon on line or some nasty slug stole your cargo. When deciding what to upgrade, instead of always buying a power for your engine upgrade, don't. Just use your shields.
Of course, when your zoltan shield goes down you'll need to find a way to power your regular shield, and taking it from engines may not be the best choice

Judging by the extensive replies, apparently I wasn't clear either.
...I wonder what sector enemy Zoltan ships with completely maxed out engines but only the Zoltan Shield (zero normal shield layers) would be a good fit for.

Ship caught on fire in a Nebula? Don't know where? Don't want to vent your whole vessel? Activate a System Repair Drone. The green dot will tell you where the offending blaze is. If it's not in a critical room, you can then simply vent the area, de-activate him, and put that power into something useful.

Fighing a pesky Auto Assault in the Basil? Does it have an empty room that might render your boarding drone useless? Before you send your drone to deliver the final blow, simply teleport two crew into the empty room. That way the drone will definitely hit a system. In case it's a system with only a few hitpoints (helm), power down the drone until your crew are back on your ship, so you don't blow them to bits.
