Shops and distress signals are a trap?

Postby Spleens » Tue Nov 09, 2021 10:36 am

There's been a few conditions that have repeated themselves on my few wins on Normal and avoiding shops for the first few sectors was one of them. Shops seem like a total waste of time for most of the game because it can't provide you scrap unless you have something to sell. Avoiding shops for the first 2 sectors has been a winning strategy for me and avoiding shops nearly the entire game has given me a Tarus win mobdro kodi.

Obviously, if you need fuel, repairs or your ship left the hanger poorly equipped you should try to arm yourself quickly but holding off until the end of sector 2 or asap in 3 seems to be the way to go.

Likewise, if you have a all human ship distress signals don't seem to be worth the node unless you've unlocked some blue options with an upgraded medbay, upgraded sensors, a crew teleporter or stealth.

In FTL: Faster Than Light, your approach of avoiding shops and distress signals in the early sectors is a viable strategy and can often lead to successful runs, especially on Normal difficulty.
Early Sectors:
Early on, focus on basic survival and ship improvement. Invest in essential upgrades and avoid unnecessary risks.
Mid to Late Game:
As you progress to later sectors, you may have more scrap and better equipment, making shops and distress signals more valuable. By then, you might also have more resources to handle the additional risks involved.
Flexibility:
While avoiding shops and distress signals can be a winning strategy, be prepared to adapt based on your specific situation, such as the ship type, crew composition, and available upgrades.
