for some reason when ever i play i just get the pod and no research center or i find TONS of research centers and no pods.

For me, whenever I get a pod I can almost always find a research center. The difficult part for me is getting to the rock homeworld after that (it's always near the end of the sectors where I no longer have much red sectors to get to).
