Idea for Fire and Boarding Federation cruisers

I'm making a mod and I want a Federation Cruiser that has a Firebeam artillery and also a separate Boarding Federation Cruiser, but I don't want the 2 ships to be too similar nor do I want them to be too similar to the vanilla Fed C. But only way I can think to make a Boarding Federation work is a Firebeam Rock crew or just do what the Fed C does and have a suicide squad. any ideas?
