Returning from hiatus to update mod. [RESOLVED]

As the title suggests, I had a couple mods that seemed to have borked out since the update that added the into the breech promotion. In any case, the fact my mods aren't working have been eating away at my soul, and I'd like to come back and diagnose what's wrong and get them back into working order. It has been... years.
A crash course on the things I'd need to get started again would be lovely.
So far a bug I can see is that the sprite for my custom artillery weapon is missing on my ship.
EDIT: It was an error with the sprite placement that became appearant after 1.6. This isue has been resolved.
