Could an FTL mod interact with external hardware?

Hi,
I have a peripheral for my PC called a monome grid. It's largely intended for music, but I'd love to use it in FTL for assigning energy to different ship systems (just because this is a fun alternative control idea). However, the grid doesn't connect as a gamepad but using a protocol called OSC (although I could develop an external program to speak OSC to the monome and something else to a mod). Is it possible for an FTL mod to interact with devices like this and add additional controller functionality?
