I've released the first version for now (which I'm happy with), and I'll wait a bit longer for comments about the thicker shield version.

I've also released my source files, so anyone can try tweaking the look:

These shields are really nice.

I would like to see different colours / textures for the different races.

Mantis with Yellow hexagons.
Voltar with Aqua/green bubbles

Etc

For both the player and enemy ships.

I'd like to see such changes in CE, and i'd be willing to help put the work in.

I'm just going to say, they'll need to get into Superluminal, and for each enemy ship you'll need to replace the shields with their respective colours one-by-one. Or dig into enemy .XML files and edit some lines of code.

(Since all enemies share one shield image.)

Glad you like it. :)

Feel free to use my source files (see my previous post) to create your own versions.

Bear in mind that, as Arfy said, enemies all share one shield image that gets resized. Also note how the game does Zoltan shields: it takes the main shield image and adjusts the hue. So if you change the colour of your main shield image, expect to see different colour Zoltan shields too.

Ahh I see. Thank you for informing me in detail what can and cannot be done. It's a pity we can't change the colours per-race. Oh well.

Great mod here. Really makes the shield look a lot better without sacrificing any of the original style.
