The images to use are in the unpacked resources/img/ship folder, but i guess that are the one you are allready using. I'm not sure which version of .net you need. Could you look that up, please? you can find that in windows in controls>programs. there should be one or more entrys labeled "Microsoft .NET framework X.Y".

It tells me it's not a valid Win32 application whenever I try and run it.

That means that you don't have (the right) .NET framework installed. You can download the newest version here

If so: Bleh.

Oh, you are right. It seems .NET 4.5 is not available for windows XP. But don't panic, i'll be releasing a new version today(As in the next 12 hours) , that should work with .NET 4.0 which is available for XP here. That new version should now also make working ships.

Thank you for reminding me. I'll add removing weapon mounts right away. There is a major release comming up with loading .xml files, and a working xml creation.

You have to unpack your resource.dat and data.dat, using this tool. Resource.dat and data.dat are in your Steam\steamapps\common\FTL\resources folder.
But wait a couple of hours. New version makes this easier.
