FTL Captains Edition: Call for Events/Textlists

Postby Sleeper Service » Thu Jul 04, 2013 4:52 pm

Hey there modders/eventcreators

As FTL Captains Edition grows I like to add many more new events and flavour texts. My time, creativity and English skills are limited, but you are all invited to post your event ideas if you feel like it. Your events and other contend will most likely make it into the mod if it meets the following requirements:

-completely in-depth lore friendly
-well balanced (concerning rewards, negative and positive outcome, etc.)
(-matching vanilla style and tone, I know that is vague, but try to take it into account for coherency)
-fully written as usable xml.append code, including sub-events, lists and ship events if necessary

Submitting texts in FTL compatible xml format and having them tested beforehand will go a long way if you want to increase the chance of them getting integrated. They should also match vanilla style in terms of choice level depth, individual text length and complexity. Meaning they should generally have few choice levels, short and efficient individual texts and they should not be overly complex.

Basically the closer your events are to how vanilla events are structured and stylized the better. I understand this are high standards. I know this means some work. If no one feels like contributing I'm totally fine with that, this is just an offer. ;) Also, even minor contributions, like additions to vanilla textlists (like the "NOTHING" lists for example) would totally be appreciated. You can make use of all the CE assets (weapons, drones, stations, Rebel capital ships) in your events. Everyone that contributes will receive full credit for their stuff.

Yours sincerely

Event Idea

You are hailed by ship...vessel...something in deep space. Its blue and seems to be composed of some kind of crystal. When the screen comes up, you see a being, composed of completely blue crystals! You've never seen these beings before... "This is a science vessel and for your information, we are Crystals, and have closed ourselves off from the universe. Tell us, who is your captain? This is for... educational purposes." Says the blue thing. You think about it and...

1a. (Blue option) Have your Human pose as captain.
1b. (Blue option) Have your Engi pose as captain.
1c. (Blue option) Have your Mantis pose as captain.
1d. (Blue option) Have your Slug pose as captain.
1e. (Blue option) Have your Rockman pose as captain.
1f. (Blue option) Have your Zoltan pose as captain.
1g. (Blue option) Have your Crystal pose as captain.

2a."So, there's another war going on? Great...thats the reason why we left last time a hundred or so years ago...actually, how old am I? Its been so long since...well, I won't bother you with the details. We Crystals cannot aid you in the final battle, but we will help you as much as we can! Here, take this!" REWARD: low scrap

2b. Ahh...the Engi, the most peaceful race we know. We are glad that you are still living after all these decades! How did you do it?" They give you some supplies for your trouble. REWARD: low scrap, drone parts

2c. " Oh goodness, NOT YOU!" They disconnect and immediately ftl away. You feel as though having the most vicious race as captain was a bad idea. REWARD: nothing

2d. "Hm...you are new to us. You live in nebulas? That explains it. This is fantastic! We now know of your existence, and you know of ours!" They give you... a lot of scrap. You can't tell if they are delighted that they discovered the Slugs or if your slug couldn't resist..." REWARD: med-high scrap

2e. "Cousin! Your kind is still alive! We feel bad for leaving you behind when we left, so please this to make up for it!" REWARD: med-high scrap, random weapon

2f. "Ack! Your kind and your suppressing can just be...be...eradicated!" They disconnect and ftl away. REWARD: nothing

2g. "WHAT? Our kind have become friends with these other beings? That...is...great! This is the best information you could have possibly provided us!" They give you some of their tech and scrap. REWARD: high scrap, Crystal tech

WIth the Purchase Unknown Weapon event, give us a blue option for using a slug to have him mind trick the other slugs to get a (slightly) lower offer and a (slightly) better chance of getting a actual weapon. This should give balance between buying weapons from Slug stations and Slug ships.

[/b]Event Idea[/b]

This is a first, because a auto-vessel hails you in binary. "01000011 01100001 01101110 00100000 01111001 01101111 01110101 00100000 01010101 01101110 01100100 01100101 01110010 01110011 01110100 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01101101 01100101 00111111"

1a. Um...
1b. No?
1c. (Blue Engi option) "01011001 01100101 01110011 00101110"

2a. "01011001 01101111 01110101 01110010 00100000 01101000 01100101 01110011 01101001 01110100 01100001 01101110 01110100 00100000 01101101 01100001 01101110 01101110 01100101 01110010 00100000 01110011 01101000 01101111 01110111 01110011 00100000 01110111 01100101 01100001 01101011 01101110 01100101 01110011 01110011 00100001" Suddenly, the ship attacks! REWARD: A battle

2b. "01010000 01000001 01010010 01000001 01000100 01001111 01011000 00100001" Suddenly, the ship self-destructs...perhaps you confused it? REWARD: low scrap

2c. The auto-vessel and your Engi have a conversation in binary, none of which you understand. Your Engi must have done a good job, because the auto-ship transports some fuel and supplies! REWARD: Fuel, med scrap

You should edit the mantis escape pod event so that if you have a slug, you can telepathically detect whether the occupant is human or mantis. If it's mantis, you can still open it, for the same chance of it being friendly or hostile as the current event. You could do something similar for the mantis fugitive/rebel deserter events, to determine if it's a trap.

Perhaps you should get permission to add the FTL Infinte Space events...or add more blue options for humans.

Since I don't actually know how to write an event, well, I'll just say it here.

You jump into the beacon and are hailed by a Zoltan ship. "Greetings traveller. We are a peaceful diplomatic ship and do not wish to fight you. Leave us alone and let us be on our way."

1a. You don't trust 'em.
1b. Let them leave.
1c. (Zoltan Blue Option) Have your zoltan talk.
1d. (Slug Blue Option) Have your slug search their ship for anything of value.

2a. You hear the captain say, "I told you these primitive species would not understand. Raise the shields!" [fight, weak zoltan ship]
2b. They leave you in peace. [no fight]
2c. The Zoltan conference for several minutes. They give you their scans for the sector. [give sector scans]
2d. Your slug sees their ship is not carrying anything of value. They jump away.

I would offer the entirety of Turning the Tide, should you wish to make use of it. It's become clear to me that I no longer have the motivation or enthusiasm to ever complete the project as I originally intended, and it seems Captains Edition fills this niche and considerably more.

There are a few flaws to work out and the event-lists could use expanding (more options is always better), but the core principle of T3 was that taking the fight into the Rebel-controlled space intentionally could be both insanely dangerous and fairly rewarding (slowing or halting their advance in a given sector). As long as you're willing to hold true to that ideal, then you may make use of any / all material from that mod, with my blessings.

Thanks Kiev, I will see what I can use.

The Rebel Destroyer model is already integrated with two layouts. In total there are seven different ships you can encounter on fleet beacons now. Indeed, the whole cruiser extension thing was kind of inspired by your mod, so I think I'm going into the same direction here. Rewards for taking out capital ships will come mainly in the form of time gain, to preserve some balance, make the fleet unfarmable and preserve it as a threat. I want encounters with elite cruisers in CE to be exactly that, insanely dangerous and fairly rewarding. Ther is also a chance to encounter battle ships, which are designed to be almost undefeatable by player cruisers.

Event Idea, Quest, Is actually in lore with cruiser add-on

You arrive at the beacon to find a small rebel ship FTLing away. Just as you are about to FTL away after them, something hits your piloting window. It seems to be a star chart of some sort, showing the location of... Holy crap! You just discovered the Rebel's prototype cruiser! It seems that this ship was a bust and the AI went rouge... so really, it was never a successful prototype. The rebel ship must have dropped this somehow! Space will be a much better place if you put this AI down.

Quest beacon added!

(As arriving at quest beacon)
You FTL into the beacon to have shots fired all around you. You recognize that small rebel ship desperately trying to dodge the shots of a... AI Rebel Cruiser. By the markings and poor craftsmanship, you take note that this is probably the first rebel cruiser. The small rebel ship finally FTL's away, and the AI ship directs its attention towards you!

Continue...

You brace for impact and... you get a transmission instead. It seems the AI ship is contacting you. "Your markings tell me your from the Federation, which I was meant to destroy. Instead, I waste my infinite anti-matter battery days on lowly pirates. You are the first Federation ship I've seen, other than the pictures in my database. They abandoned me, you know, the Rebels. I wasn't...'perfect' in their...'eyes'." You can imagine this ship frowning, saying words that it may not quite understand.

Continue...

"I have a proposition for you.." it says, "I was built to destroy the Federation, but the Rebels never thought I was worth it. Can I... 'fight' you?"

1a. Of course, you were built for it after all!
1b. I can't risk it.

2a. "Excellent" It says. You detect it charging its weapons. (Fight a new, weak Rebel Cruiser)

2b. "Oh... well, good-bye then." It seems to stare into your soul for a bit, and then FTL's away. You can't help but shed a tear. (REWARD: Nothing)

(After getting the AI Rebel Cruiser to low hull points)

The AI contacts you again, flooding your screens with surrender codes. "They were right, I am but a piece of junk floating in space... Please accept my humble surrender."

1. Accept the AI's humble surrender.

(After accepting its surrender)

"I have another proposition. Let me join your...'crew'. I now wish to bring the fight to the rebels." You can almost see determination in the AI's codes. You accept his proposition.

REWARD: AI Core (Augmentation, you can decide what it does!)
