[SHIP] [AE] [CE Ready] The Kodiak

This ship starts with no shields, no cloak, and no weapon pre-igniter. What it does start with are some really big guns with equally high price tags and a bunch of fancy augments. It can be difficult to dispatch the first ships you find, but once this thing has the essentials it's absolutely unstoppable.

Room placement is fairly basic, with lots of empty space to fill. Airlocks are located on the assumption the Kodiak’s only means of disembarkment are ramps, as it was never really intended for deep space travel. Gibs, cloak and mini ship mages are all there and all working.

After following the development of Gencool's Tardis I decided this mod needed a little more pazazz, so I added a couple custom events and the possibility of encountering GDI's Ion Cannon, which probably has the meanest beam you'll ever see.

Credit goes to LordTrilobite and his Detailed Ship Greeble Graphics mod for some of the detail included in the ship’s hull, Sleeper Service for the disruptor animation and MaeniAck for the pilot room image. Everything related to C&C (i.e. the Kodak, the disruptor, the ion cannon and the Tiberian concept) is property of EA. Some graphical revisions and suggestions were made by steamtex. Many thanks to NarnKar, TaxiService and Sleeper Service for putting up with me hogging the Previews from the impatient thread for so long and for helping so much with the hull art.

Some of the storyline stuff won't make much sense to people who haven't played Tiberian Sun or another C&C game. Besides, all the Westwood era C&C games were and still are in my opinion really good games, so I suggest that you check them out if you've never played them before. Tiberian Sun (among other C&C games) can be downloaded legally and for free here.

Oh wow, that railgun looks amazing. I've honestly been meaning to create one for my own work for a bit of time now, but I had no idea how to make it look good and proper. Everything else looks pretty solid too. Good work!

Looks impressive, although the no shields and cloak gimmick reminds me of the worst part about the Stealth C and the best part about the Stealth B. It might be a very quick video run :lol:

Next up is the Scrin Carrier, right? Or the Scrin Ship (the one Kane built).

Thanks! The guns really aren't much, just a lot of bits from existing ones and a few new pixels here and there.

You'd be surprised how mean this thing can be even without any of that. During the testing phase I was ready to annihilate third sector enemies before I was even half way through the second! I may actually power this thing down a bit later.

Well... that'll be a while. The Scrin ship's art is about a bajillion times more complicated, and I could barely finish this hull. Weren't you gonna take a shot at that?

I don't know which Scrin ship you guys are talking about, but I plugged "Scrin" into google images and got some seriously cool lookin' stuff. If I had more time, I would love to take a crack at that hull art, but as it is I've already got two unfinished ships and many ships in dire need of an update.....so chances are if you show me the Scrin I'll probably doodle a little of it anyway :P

EDITS: I forgot to mention, the hull art of the Kodiak is looking quite nice, especially with the self-cast shadows + the shading in general. Nice job!

What image software do you use?? Can it support .psd files?

I'll have to take your word for it as I don't have access to FTL at this moment but I'm looking at that railgun and I'm thinking "Great, it's a missile weapon. This'll be fun when I need to destroy an enemy ship quickly but somehow it evades all my shots and/or destroys my Weapons system constantly so I can't use any of the other, long-charging weapons."

To me it's one Rebel Ship With Two Beams (Drone and weapon) away from defeat. An RNG nightmare. But I'll give it a shot I guess.

I was thinking of taking the Lanius ships, colouring them purple/blue and using the pieces to create the Assault Carrier, but then other things popped up and I still haven't gotten around to it. I thought I'd get it done last weekend but that wasn't a good, lazy weekend where I could do such things.
That and laziness. I prefer to play other ships, not actually make them.

Your suggestions helped a lot, I don't think it would be as good as it is had you not made them.

It's a pretty simple online editor called Pixlr. I highly doubt it can support that file extension.

Well... I've done a video run.

Who knew that beams that did two damage could go through one layer of shield and kick butt on the inside? I thought I'd be stuck with the Railgun like some sort of a Bulwark player, but then the sweet Ion Cannon came along and proved to me that I was just out of touch with FTL.

The video will be up soonish but wow, that was one badass mothertrucker!

Also, do you have a soundboard for the Command & Conquer games I can use? My video uses sounds I ripped from a youtube video which left the background music in, but that was the only place I could quickly find EVA quotes.

I've extracted every sound from all the C&C games Westwood developed (besides Renegade). I have all the sounds for EVA from the first game here. That should be old enough not to get me sued.

I wouldn't worry about getting sued. I think the companies only care if you're trying to make money off their work.

Hope you don't mind if I added some sounds in for the full C&C experience. Maybe you could see if you can modify random events with custom sounds. Add CABAL's voice if doing a Nod ship.
