Was this before AE? Because I've tried ships with up to 7 layers of shields. Not only do they block missiles (1 damage each missile) they are also shown on the UI the same way the 5th layer does, except over the other two bubbles. Also, if you set either system casing or hull plating mods to 50% or higher, beams do not damage the system/ship.

Wait, what would a zoom feature be good for anyway? My biggest thing would be pixel perfect placement of gibs/weapons. It's easy enough to do the gibs, but the weapons are a bit harder. You don't need to transform the entire image, just have a little secondary display copy-pasta and display in higher res the area your mouse is hovering over when enabled.
