I was actually struggling with this problem when I was still working on Infinite Space 2.

One of the ideas I considered- but obviously never implemented- was that the 'bosses' in Infinite Space could optionally be shops when you had a specific augment. Of course, that augment was only planned to show up in one event...

I felt like trying to design a Rebel ship from existing parts, but I didn't do any splicing. I have no need for this ship, so I'll just leave things here and see if anybody else feels like trying to finish it. :P

I got one. Remove boarding as a mechanic. I'm sick of it. I really would like to go one single jump without having a half dozen mantises jump aboard inexplicably.

You're complaining about Mantises? How about 6 Zoltan beaming aboard? At least you can heal afterwards. With Zoltan if you defeated them all quickly then everyone dies instantly. It's why I avoid Zoltan sectors.

But no, boarding should remain in the game. Also, I don't think this is the right topic to be posting your complaints about one bit of bad luck. We've all suffered the dreaded Mantis Intruders several times in a row. But it doesn't mean boarding sucks. Boarding is the best thing ever since Ug said "What if I plant these seeds instead of eating them?"

Yeah, I was really cranky that night. I'd been boarded in every single jump for two straight sectors, it was awful. Once I even got boarded AND targeted by a planetary defense system. That was not fun. Forgot to have my medbay powered for that one; half the systems were shut down by an ion storm or something ridiculous and painful.

Early in my modding career, I had an idea for an overhaul. The cheesy overhaul. All the ships are cheese. Engi ships generally have a donut (hole in the middle) shape, so they would fly swiss cheese ships. Fire would be replaced with mold, so Rocks with their fire immunity would fly bleu cheese as it is already moldy. For some reason, I figured Zoltans would fly some kind of stinky cheese, like limburger, but I don't remember why. I can't recall anything else about the idea.

A more recent idea I've had is a ship mod, since I've watched some Danganronpa in the past. It would be a Monokuma ship, named Despair, and it would use breach bombs and mind control. Artillery weapon would be the Spears of Gungnir, which would shoot 5 spears with a high breach chance. Another ship would be Monomi, either named Hope or Usami. I don't know what this ship would do.

These are ideas that I'm not going to do, so I'm listing them here if others might be interested in them.

An FTC? If something like that popped up, I'd immediately cheese it.
But it does sound like a Gouda idea.

(GaW) A more recent idea that I've had, and should be easier to do than most since it doesn't involve any new ship assets, is a simple overhaul mod that I would call Galaxy at War. Aside from the first sector starting beacon, every beacon would be a guaranteed fight. Store beacons would be replaced by pirate fights, where you save the store before you can shop. I don't know if they would just use a normal distress beacon and be hidden from the player, or a special distress (repair) beacon that lets the player know that it will be a store. There is no free stuff; you have to fight for everything. All the fighting will give you too much scrap, right?
