Why can the AI jump without a pilot

The last man on the enemy ship is about to die, the Engine is damaged, they have no pilot, and the pilots seat is one health from going boom. If this was my ship, I couldn't jump because I have no pilot, yet it seems the enemy can, taking my scrap, expert boarders, and hopes of unlocking the Kestrel type B with it. This isn't the first time an enemy has jumped when it shouldn't, and I'm hoping it gets fixed soon.

P.S. If anyone can tell me how to change the game files to unlock ships tell me, because I'm fed up of using the same 3 ships now and since ship unlocking is random I cant be bothered waiting anymore.

I don't know how to edit the game files, but I know the game starts to get boring once you unlock everything. Try going for any achievements you're missing, or trying to beat the game at least once on normal with every ship, then if you still haven't unlocked more ships, look toward alternate solutions. But that's just my advice... there are some threads in the strategy forum that will tell you what you need to know.

Probably for the same reason why they don't start charging their FTL drives until they decide to jump, instead of taking off with no warming.

Now Im REALLY pissed of. the enemy charged and used their FTL in 5 seconds taking my crew AND MY CHANCE OF GETTING THE REDTAIL AGAIN FUCK YOU, and even if you include the entire battle the FTL was charged before mine, and this is sector 2.

5 sec after the warning?

I guess their engines were recharging just like yours. I could be wrong. if i'm right, they didnt try to escape until you got the note, but had their FTL drive almost recharged.

Maybe it was that mantis event? Did it give you a quest to follow it?

Never seen the AI charge and use their FTL in 5 seconds, but, I have frequently kinda not read the text at the start of the battle, and half forgotten that it said something about "they are trying to get away, don't want to fight, will warn the Rebel fleet as to your whereabouts etc", and been congratulating myself about having taken their weapons down, and my boarding team wreaking havoc on their shields when....blip...they're gone. A moment of "WTF?"...then "Doh!!" / Faceplant into keyboard.

Each time it happens, I tell myself PAY ATTENTION! Don't make that dumb mistake again and lose that Mantis boarding team for the umpteenth time...but it does happen, again..

My experience is that every time the enemy ship is planning to flee, you get fair warning, either at the start of the fight, or during it.

And, now I think of it, can't players make jumps with no pilot if the cockpit is upgraded? The FTl still charges, but slower than if it is manned.
