A minor Engi change I'd love to see

Postby Gencool » Sat Jul 02, 2016 8:39 pm

I know this won't happen, but I'd welcome the discussion.

Engi
  • Combat Damage Halved
  • Repair Speed Doubled
  • Inflict 1.5x Damage to Systems/Doors

This way, Engi have a place in any boarding party - they may need protection from enemy crew, and won't get you bio-kills, but can wreck a ship up quickly.

Is this a feature that could be added through mods?

Not any traditional form of modding.

There was a glimmer of hope a while ago, but nothing seems to have come from it.

They already have a place in boarding parties, as an extra party above and beyond your "normal" party. If you can damage the weapons or are otherwise okay with taking them off your ship, Engi can help you win even fights, tank damage so your injured Mantis can continue shooting projectiles at enemy crew, or act as distractions for enemy crew in the shield room while others break the weapons, medbay/clonebay, engines, etc.

They're not as useful as humans (let alone Slugs or more Mantis/Rockmen), but they're still surprisingly good boarding helpers, especially if you've upgraded your teleporter. If you've got them, particularly on boarding ships like Slug B, Federation C or Mantis B/C, you might as well use them.

I take your point, but like you said, they're basically the last choice.

Like, if you have a crew with one of each race and a 4 person teleporter, they wouldn't be in the party. Even Zoltans rank above them, if you have a clonebay.

I'm not saying every race has to be boarding friendly, but it would add to the options the player has if they were, and it would make being boarded by engis a little less laughable.
