Portable USB version

Postby Andytizer » Tue Sep 04, 2012 10:07 am

Would love to see a portable version that can be run on a USB stick. This would allow me to take it around to different PCs and run it without having to install it. Will this be possible in the DRM-free release of the game?

Bump! I really need this for boring school. Please add the option to save in the directory the game is residing in or add an additional download on humble. either way works for me!

After testing today, it seems like it can't be installed at all from the downloadable Humble Store version if one does not have admin privileges.

I will do a test later to see if it can be installed on a USB stick and then run on a computer without admin privileges.

I'd like to request a zipped, portable version that does not require installation also. Thanks.

Yes, I support this request. Great idea! :)
It should be available in Humble Store as download for Windows.

You would need something like minecraft with a sign in.

There could be pirates in the next sector...

If you're referring to piracy I feel obliged to tell you that the game is already being pirated - no DRM remember? Not that DRM would matter - minecraft's either. It was never able to keep out pirates.

I'd like portable options as well - I have some of my smaller games on a usb drive (or on my cloud storage) for when I'm on the road.

I can confirm that the game can be run from a USB stick without admin privileges. However, the savegame will still be made in the My Documents\My Games|FasterThanLight folder, which will need to be backed up and saved in case you move to another computer.

I have to agree that DRM has never been affective. However it would be nice to throw FTL on a flash drive or even on my linux live drive ( still possible) so that when repairing computers and waiting I can play some FTL
