NPC Action

Postby Da_Jackster » Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:23 pm

Hi there,

I was dumb enough to believe that the NPCs move before the Vek attack, as shown here:

RIP my robot which didn't move according to the attack order. I should've better known but this can be really disturbing.

Which version of the game are you currently playing?

Hmm, it is up to date, but this may be related to something we'll be fixing in the next update. Thank you for bringing this up and for the screenshots.

The same thing happened to me yesterday, so I searched for a way to report bugs and found this page, so I created an account (now that's commitment). Good thing I was only trying to get Chronophobia and not perfect the island. I used v. 1.1.22 (11-19-2018). I guess the bug hasn't been fixed yet. It would appear to only occur with the Mine Layer, but I'll keep an eye out for this glitch in other NPCs.

How many squares do the mine-bots travel? If 2, then he had no viable places to go.

Mine-bots won't self-freeze, like how a Terminator won't self-terminate. So every possible target square was bad for him. Basically he mined himself into a corner.

It was the turn before that. I had 2 Mine Layers, one of them (the one that isn't in the screenshot) was meant to move before a Scarab killed it. That one was in B4 (grid numbering is shown in my screenshot), if I remember correctly, so it had plenty of places to move to.

Ah. You may have misunderstood how mine-bots work, or I'm still misunderstanding what happened. Here's the (distilled down to the essentials here) turn order:

  1. Mine-bots plop a mine and move.
  2. Vek move and choose their targets.
  3. Player does all actions.
  4. Vek shoot.

In short, if you're at the point where a Vek is targeting a mine-bot, the mine-bot will not move before the Vek fires.

That is correct, Vek do fire before the Mine Layers move. The problem is that the 'Attack Order' guide says that NPC Actions (i.e. Mine Layers moving) occur before Enemy Actions, when it should have them the other way around.
